We are looking for an experienced Band 6 to join our Transplant & Cardiac Surgery Physiotherapy team, who has a passion for respiratory care and are motivated to learn and progress. This post offers the opportunity to develop both clinical and leadership & people management skills in this specialist area. You will be supported by the Transplant & Cardiac Surgery Team Lead and Service Lead Physiotherapists to develop clinically and as a leader.

This role provides the individual with a fantastic opportunity to work with key stakeholders and the wider Transplant and Cardiac surgery MDT to advance the service provided and coordinate high quality patient care. Within the role the post holder will engage in audit and support colleagues with their own service improvement work.

The post holder will work closely with the Physiotherapy Service Leads, Team Leads and Deputy Team Leads to support service delivery, coordination, and development. The individual will work collaboratively with the Physiotherapy Service Lead and Team Lead on Cardiothoracic wards to ensure cohesive service provision.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will act as a Deputy Team Lead Physiotherapy clinician in a highly specialised area of transplant & cardiac surgery, to ensure a high quality physiotherapy service provision to surgical patients within the Trust.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc/ Pre- Reg MSc/ Grad. Dip. in Physiotherapy
  • HCPC registration


Desirable

  • CSP member
  • Relevant specialist interest group membership e.g. ACPRC, SCTS


Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrate Band 6 level Physiotherapy knowledge and experience managing cardiorespiratory patients independently including pre and post cardiothoracic transplant, and cardiac surgery.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritise own and team workload and delegate effectively to others
  • Experience of on call and weekend working
  • Experience of supervision & mentorship of junior staff and/or students, and supporting others with mentoring roles.
  • Ability to work autonomously and be a team player
  • Evidence of demonstrating and role modelling excellent communication skills, including verbal, non verbal and written.
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure whilst supporting the team
  • Ability to problem-solve and make own decisions and support the team in others clinical and non-clinical decision making
  • Ability to lead, support and provide team management in team leaders absence.
  • Attendance at relevant postgraduate cardiorespiratory physiotherapy courses, study days and conferences
  • Experience in theoretical and practical student training
  • Experience of teaching and presentation to peers and multi-professional colleagues within the Trust
  • Experience of audit / service improvement / research projects
  • Utilisation of current evidence base to influence own and support others clinical practice
  • Ability to undertake manual handling tasks
  • Ability to work flexibly in an enhanced seven day service, including on-call, and late shifts


Desirable

  • Experience of treating patients with heart failure
  • Basic management and leadership training
  • Experience with external teaching and presenting
  • Working knowledge of NHS and AHP priorities and initiatives
