As well as working as the lead midwife for preterm birth, the successful post holder will also be the lead midwife for AIP. The post holder will have a close working relationship with the AIP consultants and the multidisciplinary team to ensure smooth, effective, and safe care is implemented. As the lead AIP midwife, you will ensure processes and pathways for those in our care with placental accrete are in place in order to provide bespoke care from the midwifery perspective.

Duties will include receiving and triaging all AIP referrals, ensuring each individual referral is examined, and the correct pathway of care is implemented. Being responsible for ensuring all women receive an USS by an AIP consultant within 72 hours of receiving the referral, and the correct pathway implemented, to monitor the activity within all AIP cases.

The post holder will improve outcomes and experiences for those in our care by ensuring all women with confirmed morbidly adherent placenta are known to the AIP centres. With your wealth of knowledge and leadership, you will be involved in training midwives, medical and support staff. If you would like to make a difference to women and their families, then we would like to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

Across the UK, almost 8% of live births include babies born prematurely. The preterm birth lead midwife will play a decisive role in leading in the development of care and management of women who are at increased risk of preterm birth (PTB), together with the lead preterm birth consultants in accordance with Saving Babies Lives Version 3. This specialist service will aim to improve outcomes for women and their babies by providing enhanced individualised care during the antenatal period.

The preterm birth lead midwife will be an expert clinical practitioner with the ability to work autonomously within the guideline and sphere of professional practice. Care provided will be evidenced based and holistic in meeting women's individual needs.

About us

We're an organisation that is getting better and better. We were the most improved Trust in England for A& E performance in 2023/24 we're no longer in special measures and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive, has been named the top CEO by the Health Service Journal. Our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we're proud of and that our patients are happy with.

Many of our 8,000 staff - who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and the majority are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. More than 400 of them are on apprenticeship programmes and we're proud to be a London Living Wage employer.

We operate from two main sites - King George Hospital (KGH) in Goodmayes and Queen's Hospital in Romford. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London - more than 300,000 people visited our A& Es in 2023.

Patients across north east London are benefitting from two new state of the art theatres at KGH and our Community Diagnostic Centres at Barking Community Hospital and St George's Health and Wellbeing Hub will significantly increase the number of scans that can be carried out.

We're looking forward to introducing an electronic patient record next year. This will mean the records of any patient visiting one of the seven hospitals run by BHRUT and Barts Health will be accessible to the clinical teams. It'll make things easier for staff and will be better for patients.
