An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, experienced physiotherapist in our community team for adults with learning disabilities.

We are looking for a professional with leadership skills and a passion to be part of the physiotherapy service. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and delivery of a highly specialist physiotherapy service, demonstrating highly specialist expertise and specialist physiotherapy skills in areas such as mobility and postural management.

This is a full-time Band 6 Specialist Physiotherapist developmental post with a scope to progress to Band 7 specialist Physiotherapist in 18 months

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will independently manage a caseload of people with learning disabilities with postural needs and, with a wide range of health conditions. They will maintain a high standard of clinical work and offer a person-centred approach to client assessment and intervention by using appropriate treatment procedures and following established standards. They might also be expected to take part or initiate appropriate quality measures, research or clinical studies that can improve the service and the experience of the service users. They will be expected to work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team, service users, carers, and other local services.

The post holder also is required to deliver formal and informal training to staff and carers and participate in regular team meetings, and clinical supervision. They will be flexible, have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to reflect on their own practice. They will show respect and compassion for people with learning disabilities, and their families.

Desirable

  • Member of the clinical special interest group for physiotherapists in learning disabilities


Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience of working with clients with learning disabilities
  • Previous experience of community physiotherapy work


Desirable

  • Previous experience in mental health, musculoskeletal, elderly, Aquatic therapy, audit, health promotion and supervision
  • Understanding of the philosophy and values of learning disability services.
  • Knowledge of 24/7 postural management in the community
  • Experience in working with young people/ transition
