We are looking for a dynamic Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) with experience working with patients with communication & swallowing difficulties to join our community service. This team provides input to patients with a variety of conditions including progressive neurological diseases, stroke and dementia.

This is a part-time role and hours are negotiable. We can also offer flexible working if required. Applications from candidates with less experience may be considered as a developing band 6-7 post.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work closely with experienced SLTs, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and primary care colleagues in an outpatient & community setting. You will liaise closely with other health & social care professionals as well as patients, family & carers. You will have responsibility for caseload management of those referred into the service and deliver appropriate therapeutic interventions to achieve agreed goals.

There will be opportunities to contribute to service development & explore new ways of working. We run a Multidisciplinary Parkinsons Disease Clinic for early diagnosis, with the support of an on-site Consultant Geriatrician & Nurse specialist. We are also proud to be able to offer Lee Silverman Voice Therapy (LSVT- Loud) and would encourage upskilling in this area.

You will be encouraged to develop skills in videofluoroscopy and FEES and to participate in a variety of continuing professional development activities. The team have close working relationships with other community and hospital teams.

This role will enable you to use your own initiative to meet the different needs of patients, as well as being part of an experienced, specialist, diverse and friendly Speech and Language Therapy team. The wider team is comprised of SLTs skilled in ENT/ Voice diagnoses and Head & Neck cancer- a speciality for which QVH is internationally renowned. Qualifications

Essential

• Evidence of relevant postgraduate education and training in advanced dysphagia (level 6 RCSLT EDSCF)
• Post-graduate education and experience in Neuro SLT and other relevant specialist courses.
• Registered member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapy (RSCLT)
• Recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree qualification

Desirable

• Have undertaken training and completed RCSLT competencies in VFS/ FEES

Experience

Essential

• Substantial SLT experience within community and domiciliary environments or strong understanding of transferrable skillset from alternative settings.
• Experience in managing a clinical caseload ensuring that clinical governance and quality assurance standards are met.
• Staff and student supervision
• Experience of developing and delivering training
• Have undertaken a clinical audit

Desirable

• Experience in leadership.
• Experience of pathway and protocol development

Knowledge

Essential

• Highly specialist knowledge and experience of assessment and treatment techniques with progressive neurological conditions.
• Highly developed knowledge of national policies and procedures a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions (relevant to the patient group)
• Highly developed knowledge of neurology and the consequences of impairment as related to the patient group
• Proven experience in developing, organising and presenting staff training programmes related to specialist field individually and to groups.
• Understanding of the principles of clinical governance /audit
• Highly developed knowledge of EDAR/ SLT related palliative care

Desirable

• Experience of working with Motor Neuron Disease
• Awareness of LSVT for Parkinson's patients (prior training would be an advantage)
