We are seeking a Pharmacy Technician to work within our well-established medicine and integrated care speciality. We aim to improve and support the quality of patients' care in clinical areas by the provision of a professional and effective medicines management service, with the emphasis on the re-use and assessment of patients own medications, medicine reconciliation, patient counselling, preparation of discharge prescriptions, one stop dispensing and authorised checking. This will include 4 month rotations in a variety of clinical areas such as:
Health Care of the Older Person (HCOP) & Frailty - This would include time spent on the newly opened Geriatric Assessment Unit (GAU), a specific admissions area for people older than 75 with an acute illness and the base HCOP wards.
Diabetes & Endocrinology (C52) - Caring for patients with diabetes and endocrinology conditions requiring hospital care. The ward also sometimes cares for rheumatology and dermatology inpatients.
Medical-Surgery patients (C53) - This ward cares for patients with medical needs whose speciality sits under the surgical division, including vascular, neurology and gastroenterology.
Stroke - Covering the newly merged Hyper Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) and Acute Stroke Unit (ASU), caring for those who have had a new stroke event and rehabilitation afterwards

The post will include both ward based & dispensary activities which include:
To support the Clinical Pharmacists and Chief Medicines Management Technician by the provision of a high quality medicine management service within medicine and integrated care speciality.
To participate in the full programme of validations & training schemes
To participate in ward controlled drug checks, returns & transfer of patients own controlled drugs to new ward areas
To be involved in the training of new pharmacy & nursing staff
To work with the multidisciplinary teams at ward level & teams in primary care
To undertake a regular operational commitment in order to maintain competencies & demonstrate fitness to practice as a registered pharmacy technician
Issue dispensed medication in the pharmacy satellites & dispensaries & counsel patients appropriately on the correct and safe use of their medicines
To be involved in the training of Technical & ATO staff in the satellite/dispensaries
To participate in rostered 7-day working which includes weekends and bank holidays
Whilst this post is commissioned to be full time, part-time hours will be considered for the correct candidate.

To provide a controlled drug ward service to specific areas against ore-arranged stock lists and to co-ordinate return of controlled drugs system for designated wards

To be involved in the training of Technical and ATO staff in the satellite/dispensaries
To participate in the NVQ training and assessment process of student technicians within the satellite/dispensaries and at ward level
To assist in the management of the day-to-day stock holding in the satellite/dispensaries
To utilise the pharmacy IT systems as required
To participate in rostered 7-day working which includes weekends and bank holidays

- BTEC/NVQ Level 3 in pharmacy services or equivalent
- Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (accredited or proof of in-house training)
Desirable
- BTEC Level 4 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent
- Medicines Management Assessment or Validations
- Proven knowledge and understanding of the medicines management technician role and responsibilities within hospital pharmacy
Experience

- Receiving, dispensing and accuracy checking prescriptions
- Pharmacy labelling systems for labelling and stock management
