We are thrilled to offer an exciting opportunity for a seasoned manager and operations professional to lead our Phlebotomy team within Pathology. This pivotal role will see you at the forefront of operational management, with a strong emphasis on guiding our services through the transition from ISO15189:2012 to ISO15189:2022 standards. Your leadership will be crucial in driving the delivery, development, and continuous improvement of our services, directly benefiting our service users and patients.

Main duties of the job

The Phlebotomy Operations Manager will oversee and lead phlebotomy services across the Peterborough, Hinchingbrooke, and Stamford sites, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, efficient ward and outpatient services. Key responsibilities include managing rotas, recruitment, handling HR processes, investigating incidents, maintaining staff competency, and continuously improving service levels.

The ideal candidate will be proactive, enthusiastic, and well-organised, with strong communication skills and the ability to support both individuals and the team. The role requires flexibility to work across all Trust sites and will involve deputising for the Phlebotomy and Specimen Reception Lead on relevant matters.

Essential

  • Educated to degree level, an equivalent qualification or evidence of significant operational management experience


Desirable

  • Recognised management qualification
  • Recognised training qualification
  • NEBOSH General Certificate


Experience

Essential

  • Understanding of the role and responsibilities of the post
  • Significant experience of managing an operational service within a clinical setting
  • Experience of managing, supervising, recruiting and training/mentoring staff
  • Understanding of HR policies
  • Experience of change management
  • Experience of working within a Quality Management System
  • Knowledge of Pathology IT systems and Microsoft Packages
