The Paediatric Emergency Department is looking for a junior sister/charge nurse to join a friendly, dynamic and comprehensive team.
You will be responsible for leading a team of nurses under the supervision of the Senior Ward Sister/Charge Nurse and to lead the shifts in the absence of the Senior Ward Sister/Charge Nurse.
Frimley Park Hospital's Paediatric Emergency Department currently sees almost 30,000 children per year between the ages of 0-17 with varying needs ranging from minor injuries and illnesses to trauma and resus.
However we have local and national reputation for delivering a consistently high standard of clinical care, which we are extremely proud of. We believe, in part, it is due to the focus on the training and development that we offer to our staff.
With a dedicated practice development lead and staff nurse development programme providing you support in learning and developing key areas such as emergency nurse skills. Alongside both internal and external opportunities to develop leadership skills, ED specialist course and departmental SIM.
Main duties of the job
Responsible for the assessment of care needs on a wide range of different paediatric conditions that present to the Emergency Department.
On a shift-by-shift basis, co-ordinate and monitor the progress of patients along their critical pathway, reporting any variance from the pathway.
Have the ability to co-ordinate a shift as the nurse in charge being responsible for managing a team and ensuring patients receive safe care.
Take named responsibility for co-ordinating individual patient's discharge From the Emergency Department.
Ensure that all nursing practice within the clinical area complies with Trust Nursing policies and procedures.
To comply at all times with the NMC Code of Conduct.

- Registered Child Nurse Bsc or equivalent
- Current NMC registration
- Post registration Emergency Care module or equivalent
Desirable
- Leadership course i.e yellow belt, ACLP
Experience
Essential
- Minimum 3 years post registration experience
- Experienced as Senior Band 5 in Emergency Care
- Experienced in supervising ED Team
- Ability to manage complex situations, prioritise workload effectively, and implement effective solutions
Desirable
- Co-ordinator in charge course
- Experienced as a shift leader. Allocate staff appropriately to create a safe and effective skill mix
Skills and Knowledge
Essential
- Supporting learners in practice (SLIP) or equivalent mentorship course
- Completed RCN level 1 competencies book (band 5 book)
- Able to demonstrate communication skills both written and oral
- Competent to clinically provide nursing care in all areas
Desirable
- Completed ESI competency or equivalent
- Knowledge of EPR systems
