Community Specialist Palliative Care (SPC) Team based at the Rowans Hospice,

We are looking for a Band 6 Occupational to work alongside the Band 6 and 7 Occupational therapists within the Multi Disciplinary Specialist Palliative Care Team.

The successful applicant must have a degree or diploma in Occupational therapy and HCPC registration. The post holder will hold a clinical caseload in a community setting and support the team with triage and complex assessment of patients, they will possess excellent communication skills and be competent in linking with the larger multidisciplinary team. They will need to be well organised, friendly and approachable and able to demonstrate maturity and skill in responding sensitively to patients and families with a life limiting illnesses. There will be the opportunity to be involved in the development of the service.

As a team we offer excellent CPD opportunities we have regular multi-disciplinary teaching, therapy education, structured 1:1 supervision and an appraisal system in place. We are also very fortunate to have multidisciplinary group clinical supervision.

The post holder will work autonomously within the context of a supportive comprehensive multi-professional specialist team. Car driver is essential.

Main duties of the job

The Band 6 Occupational Therapist is responsible for the provision of specialist care for a defined patient/client group, practicing as a core member of the multi-disciplinary team.

They will practice clinically across a variety of settings within Fareham and Gosport and South East Hampshire. The post holder will work across professional, clinical providers of palliative care services as required to develop and support patient-centred seamless care.

The role encompasses clinical, consultative, education, leadership and research functions. The primary concern of the Occupational Therapist is to bring the highest standards of clinical care to the patient through good symptom management, emotional support and access to appropriate services and advice, seeking support from more experienced members of the Specialist Palliative Care Team as appropriate.
