An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced nurse to join the Acute Medical Short Stay (AMSS) leadership team. AMSS's leadership team are responsible for continually aiming for high standards of care and supporting the nursing team. AMSS is a 37 bed short stay ward making up part of the co-located Acute Medicine Footprint which is part of the Emergency Medicine group and consists of the Medical Assessment Unit, Same Day Emergency Care, Acute Frailty Unit and our Short Stay Ward. We are Acute Medical service for a large variety of patients and conditions.

To maintain the highest quality of care and treatment for everyone we involve a number of professional teams in our work including the medical, nursing, therapies ,pharmacy and administrative teams.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to coordinate the ward and work clinically. An understanding of the operational demands and clinical pressures are essential whilst maintaining quality of care and patient safety.

Accountable for own actions in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct. Will contribute to corporate objectives, acting within local, Trust and statutory guidelines and policies at all times.

Effectively communicate information regarding clinical decisions, policy and care pathways to patients/carers and the multi-professional team including situations where difficulties in comprehension occur.

A skilled practitioner and clinical leader providing support to the management team, participating in service/policy development.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Responsible for clinical assessment of a group of patients and management of a team, ensuring appropriate care is planned, implemented and evaluated/audited, involving patients and users.

Organisation of cross-departmental/organisational activities including HR, resource, and bleep-holder responsibilities as appropriate.

Demonstrate highly technical and/or practical skills to ensure optimum patient management including complex patient monitoring equipment management and frequent administration of invasive tests/procedures.

Develop and educate staff, participating in supervision, mentorship and appraisal as required.

Utilise and ensure others utilise IT systems to secure accurate and timely patient, workforce and resource data available.

Manage expected and unexpected clinical events requiring high but unpredictable levels of physical effort according to patient dependency/clinical need, referring to a senior member of staff where appropriate e.g. in an unexpected event.

Support patients, carers and others during difficult situations arising in the clinical area, e.g. imparting bad news or following an unexpected event.

Promote and monitor adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policy signed to protect healthcare staff and service users from known hazards.

Maintain a clean, safe environment ensuring adherence to Trust standards of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control at all times
