An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, enthusiastic and well-motivated Physiotherapist to join the Surgical Therapy team at Aintree. You will be part of an innovative team providing care to patients admitted to Surgical wards following emergency surgery, including patients stepped down from the Critical Care environment, with complex respiratory and rehabilitation needs. You will be part of the wider Acute Inpatient Therapy team who provide inpatient and outpatient services across several specialist areas and will work alongside the current Lead Therapist, Team Lead Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists and MDT to provide ongoing input. The successful candidate will need to have clinical experience of assessing and treating complex patients with multiple co-morbidities following Surgery. Additionally, they will have experience of participating on an on-call rota, and competent in all aspects of Respiratory Physiotherapy. They should be comfortable with working in a challenging, acute, fast paced environment. You will get the opportunity to develop leadership skills by supporting less experienced members of the therapy team with training and formal supervision.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide clinical assessment and treatment for complex Surgical patients including rehabilitation and respiratory components of care, and those requiring adjuncts such as Incentive Spirometry, NIV, VEST and Cough Assist.
  • To support the delivery of training and development of junior members of staff to develop clinical skills.
  • To support a busy team of Physios, OTs, TAs and APs alongside the existing Band 7 team, providing clinical and pastoral supervision.
  • Contribute to inservice training programs
  • To support Therapy lead and Band 7 team in performance monitoring and management of the team including regular data collection and information gathering to contribute to monthly care group reports
  • To provide supervision and appraisal to bands 5-3

Job responsibilities

To undertake physiotherapy assessment, clinically diagnose and implement agreed treatment plans, evaluate care delivery according to health care needs for routine and complex patients. To advise, assist and educate, staff grade Physiotherapists and student Physiotherapists in the management of routine patients. To ensure effective communication with patients, carers and all other Health & Social Care Professionals regarding all aspects of patient care. This will include patients who may have difficulties in understanding or communicating. To participate in Departmental Planned Out of Hours Working and Emergency On-Call Rota. Represent Physiotherapy Service at Multidisciplinary Meetings to ensure the delivery of a co-ordinated Multidisciplinary Service. To contribute to the operational management of the Team, under the supervision of Band 7 Physiotherapist. This may at times include deputising for the Band 7 in their absence and or liaising with Therapy Managers. Be responsible for the supervision of Junior staff, Students and Assistants on a daily basis. Be responsible for organising and planning own caseload to meet service and patient priorities. The post holder shall as necessary provide cover for and undertake duties of absent colleagues.* The post holder shall follow all the policies and procedures of the organisation

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree/Diploma in Physiotherapy or equivalent
  • HCPC registration


Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable post-registration experience
  • Majority of clinical experience in the NHS UK
  • Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Evidence of a contribution to clinical education / supervision of less experienced staff, students or assistants


Knowledge

Essential

  • Broad range of clinical assessment and treatment skills based on current best practice
  • Demonstrates an ability to comprehend and work within policies on health and safety, risk management and data protection
  • Working knowledge of current NHS issues
  • Evidence of self directed learning and willingness to participate in CPD
