Within a multi-disciplinary environment, you will be responsible for the safe and effective implementation and delivery of a comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation program. This will include management, care and delivery of a structured exercise program for MI, surgical patients, ICD and Heart Failure patients post discharge. You will be responsible for managing an identified clinical caseload and student/ voluntary placements. The program consists of Hospital based and community based sessions offering core rehabilitation, which will require travel to and from each site.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of this role require you as an exercise physiologist to offer the highest standard care both remotely and face to face to our clinical patients. As a senior exercise physiologist you will be involved with the day to day running of the exercise sessions and ensuring that you run clinical services and assessments with the support of our highly experienced nursing staff.

This role comprises of both telephone and face to face approaches to deliver the best possible service to our patients regarding support, lifestyle and activity advice. You will ideally have a working knowledge of cardiac medicines and be able to discuss with patients with empathy and confidence in a professional manner.

This role will require multi site working and car travel is essential. you will be required to lift small amounts of equipment during exercise sessions and to community clinics. Ideally the right candidate will have experience delivering exercise sessions to a clinical population and a sound scientific understanding of exercise physiology.

education

Essential

  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent level of education, training or experience (Sports Science/Physiotherapy)
  • ILS (Intermediate Life Support Qualification) - or willing to undergo within 1 month of appointment


Desirable

  • BACR Phase iv Instructor qualification
  • Member of the Register of Exercise Professionals (REP), or other associated body (BASES,BACR)


previous experience

Essential

  • Relevant working in core cardiac rehabilitation (acute or community based) setting.
  • Experience of conducting one-to -one clinical and exercise based consultations and the individual management of a clinical exercise caseload
  • Experience of prescribing and delivering physical activity/exercise advice to a wide clinical population
  • Experience of prescribing and leading exercise sessions to patients with heart failure diagnosis.


Desirable

  • Experience of exercise tolerance testing


Knowledge, skills and abilities

Essential

  • Up to date knowledge of national and local strategies to reduce CHD
  • High level knowledge of existing exercises testing and prescription guidelines.
  • Demonstrable and competent knowledge of exercise physiology and impact of varied clinical pathologies.
  • Experience of developing, leading and evaluating exercise based cardiac rehabilitation for specialist populations.
  • Experience of working to time schedules.
  • Experience of planning long-term exercise programmes and evaluating outcome.
  • Ability to deliver educational talks and leading group exercise sessions.
  • Ability to assess clinical information and structure patient care accordingly.
  • Ability to support senior colleagues in designing and implementing training programmes and research & audit activities.
  • Computer literate, such as spreadsheet, PowerPoint, and Microsoft office
  • Access to a motor vehicle and ability to work outside unit.
  • Hold a Full clean driving license
