We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our busy, friendly teams to work in our progressive laboratories. The post is a broad-based Specialist Biomedical Scientist role supporting the core functions of the department. The post suited to an experienced registered Biomedical Scientist, who possess the Specialist Portfolio or equivalent, seeking a new challenge in a large specialist centre. Candidates close to completion of the specialist portfolio may be considered for shortlisting if appropriate. Successful candidates would need to sign a learning contract.

Our multiple sites, Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, Solihull Hospital and Community Services, Good Hope Hospital in Sutton Coldfield and Birmingham Chest Clinic allow people to be treated as close to home as possible. The post-holder will be required to work across the 2 main sites of QE and Heartlands as required.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be involved with the day to day activities within the Histopathology Laboratory on a rotational basis. This will include embedding and microtomy of all specimen types, quality checking and allocation of work to Pathologists, digital pathology, specimen loading/dissection, frozen sections, special stains and immunohistochemistry.
Post holders will be expected to undertake any training required and to maintain competency including a specialist level understanding of all the processes they participate in. All professionally registered staff are expected to maintain evidence of Continuing Professional Development which should be up to date and relevant to the post. Specialist training and development will be supported in these roles.

- BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science or equivalent academic achievement that is ratified by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS).
- State registration with Healthcare Professions Council (HCPC).
- Post registration specialist competency portfolio or equivalent
- Evidence of continuing professional development and proficiency in accordance with HCPC guidelines
Experience

- Experience of working in clinical laboratories commensurate with the laboratory position.
- Experience of laboratory techniques and automation.
- Experience of dealing with suppliers, clinical and support staff, the public or customer care.
- A working knowledge of:
- Biomedical Science theory and practice (Haematology, Transfusion, Biochemistry,
- Microbiology and Cellular Pathology).
