Children Occupational Therapist - Band 5

To work across health, education and social services settings combining the traditional roles of both health and social services occupational therapists as part of an integrated occupational therapy service for children, young people and their families.

To act as a source of clinical expertise and advice on occupational therapy client care for occupational therapy colleagues, other health professionals and colleagues working in external agencies, within the scope of own skills and knowledge.

Main duties of the job

To provide a high quality standard of occupational therapy assessment, management, treatment and advice for a caseload of children with a wide range of developmental difficulties and/or disabilities, some of whom may have complex or multiple pathologies.

To work as an autonomous practitioner complying with the standards set by the Health & Care Professions Council, College of Occupational Therapy, Croydon Health Services and the department, thereby being professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of own work.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc, MSc or diploma in OT
  • Registered with HCPC
  • Evidence of CPD


Desirable

  • Relevant postgraduate training including relevant paediatric training
  • Member of the appropriate clinical interest group


Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Self-management skills e.g. time management and organisational skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication
  • computer skills including data entry, use of word processing


Desirable

  • Commitment to staff development and training


Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with children at under-graduate or post-graduate level, or in another relevant setting


Desirable

  • Previous Band 5 experience in a relevant setting
  • Experience working with children with ASD, ADHD and Cerebral Palsy
  • Previous community experience


Knowledge

Essential

  • Understanding of the role of a Children's Occupational Therapist
  • Awareness of clinical governance and children's safeguarding agenda and guidance
  • Uses clinical reasoning and reflective practice to improve service delivery


Desirable

  • Knowledge of outcome measures/ audit. o
  • Demonstrates an understanding and application of national guidelines / legislation


Additional

Essential

  • Fit and able to complete physical tasks e.g. moving a child, equipment, use of a hoist
  • Manual Drivers Licence - valid in the UK
