You will need to demonstrate Specialist knowledge in Blood Sciences (Haematology and Blood Transfusion or Biochemistry) and have experience in the day to day running of the laboratory. Likewise, you must be able to show effective leadership and communication skills and be able to manage junior staff in a positive and efficient manner. If successful, you will also be responsible for helping to maintain UKAS ISO 15189:2022 and MHRA accreditation, by participating in all aspects of the quality management system.

You must be keen to embrace new ways of working and develop your knowledge and skills and help develop others. In addition to these requirements, you will be expected to participate in the shift rota, covering shifts spanning the 24/7 working week, once competency has been achieved. You may also expect to work at other Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Service sites as required to maintain quality, training and service requirements.

Main duties of the job

The laboratory is currently moving towards full multidisciplinary working and as such you would be trained in all areas of the laboratory and be expected to cover unsocial hours as a multi-disciplined member of the team. As a new member of staff, you will be provided with suitable training with rotation in all sections of the laboratory, namely Haematology, Coagulation, Blood Transfusion and Biochemistry. The laboratory has currently undergone an exciting overhaul of its equipment which has seen it fully equipped with Abbott Alinity H & CI analysers, ACL TOP 550 analysers, with Immucor NEO Iris Blood Group Analysers and more to be implemented. Experience with some of these machines is not essential but desirable. Our laboratory is fully accredited with ISO 15189:2012, MHRA and holds IBMS training status.
