Central Reception Manager

The role will be to manage a team of staff in Central reception responsible for the sample receipt and distribution within the Clinical Blood Sciences Pathology dept, based at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

  • Strong leadership qualities, coupled with highly effective communication and motivation skills
  • Excellent organisational and analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced IT skills, incorporating MS suite of products and Pathology LIMS
  • Able to multi-task, prioritise and work within imposed timetables
  • Ability to manage a large team of staff
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines, excellent time management skills
  • Ability to influence stakeholders across a range of disciplines, both internally and externally to the Trust
  • Proven ability to negotiate and influence colleagues in order to achieve change
  • Interpretation of complex data bases
  • Ability to deal with difficult and distressing situations with sensitivity and diplomacy
  • Ability to work under pressure and respond to changing needs of the service on a daily basis


Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience of managing staff in a diagnostic pathology department
  • Experience of pathology IT systems
  • Experience of managing departmental budgets
  • Advanced experience of MS Office: Excel, Word, Outlook, Powerpoint
  • Experience of Electronic Patient Request systems such as iClip or Tquest
  • Proven experience of managing change
  • Extensive knowledge of Quality Management Systems and accreditation standards
  • Extensive knowledge of Human Resource Management and HR policy implementation
  • Knowledge of laboratory health and safety issues


Desirable

  • Working with GPs/other primary care practitioners
  • Project management experience/qualification


Qualifications & Training

Essential

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent level of previous experience
  • Post graduate Diploma in Management or equivalent experience
  • IT courses completed in Excel and Access or equivalent experience
