Matron -Division of Medicine and Long Term Conditions
To lead as a visible nursing role model that can provide inspiration and direction. Matrons will be supported to implement or introduce innovative practice and develop effective problem solving skills. The Matron will provide clinical and managerial leadership within their areas of responsibility, developing and strengthening and supporting the role of Ward/Department managers and the staff.
Main duties of the job
A core member of the Care Group Team of Three, you will work closely with the Clinical Director and Care Group Manager ensuring demonstrable improvements are made and sustained in patient care and contributing to the wider Trust agenda. Demonstrate expert clinical leadership in caring for patients through comprehensive and holistic health needs assessment and the development, delivery and systematic evaluation of programs of care. Play a key role within the division and care groups and attend MDT meetings.
In collaboration with the Divisional Director of Nursing, they will co-ordinate the delivery of an effective and efficient service to meet patients' needs. The post holder will be responsible for monitoring and measuring clinical practice utilising national and local benchmarking and audit processes. In conjunction with the Divisional Director of Nursing, they will be responsible for identifying training needs for the staff within their Departments and ensuring that processes are in place to make sure that staff are offered adequate opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge

1. As a Clinical Leader will ensure the needs of patients are recognised and met by the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care across a specific Care Group for admitted and non admitted patients.
2. Act as a point of liaison for multi disciplinary and multi agency working in order to achieve the best possible outcome for patient care. Will take appropriate action to remedy any deficiencies in service provision from other agencies for the agreed Care Group.
3. Provide strong clinical leadership, be a visible member of the team undertaking clinical shifts where appropriate and support to nursing staff within an agreed Care Group including any clinical nurse specialists and ANPs.
4. Ensure effective use of advanced nursing knowledge and skills, relating to the speciality in order to enhance patient care delivery.
Managerial Responsibilities
To lead as a visible nursing role model that can provide inspiration and direction. Matrons will be supported to implement or introduce innovative practice and develop effective problem solving skills.2. Qualifications
Essential
- Registered Nurse with Current NMC Registration.
- Teaching and Assessing Qualification.
- Masters Degree or equivalent clinical experience.
- Management Qualification or equivalent management experience.
- Evidenced competency of Triage and clinical assessment skills
TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
Essential
- 5 years in a senior clinical/managerial position (at least 3 years at band 7).
- Significant experience of working as a Senior Sister/Charge Nurse
- Experience of leading and development
- Experience of working in Multi-Disciplinary Teams ? Experience of leading a team.
- Managing conflict.
- Managing sickness/absence.
- Experience of research/audit and bench marking utilizing the results to improve the quality of care.
- Management of clinical incidents and complaints.
- Experience in identifying education and training needs of staff supporting them in their professional development
- Experience in the management of human and financial resources.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

- Skills and abilities necessary for the safe and effective performance of the job.
- Specialist knowledge at post-registration level in relevant specialist areas.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the functions of the NMC. Code of Professional Conduct and its application to Clinical Practice.
- Demonstrates an understanding of relevant nursing research and its application to practice including current NHS Policies, National Service Frameworks. NICE guidelines and the service improvement agenda. Risk management issues including Health and Safety, clinical risk management and quality issues and can contribute to the integrated governance agenda.
- Excellent managerial, leadership and organizational skills including report writing, presentation skills and time management.
- Able to deal with difficult and complex situations.
