PHARMACY TECHNICIAN- ENHANCED ROLE (Band 5)
Clinical Trials (30 hours per week) and 7.5 hours Supporting other Pharmacy Services
37.5 hours per week to include late night working up to 6.30pm on rotation and to participate in Weekends and Bank Holidays working on rotation.
Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is currently offering an exciting opportunity for an Enhanced Role Pharmacy Technician to work within our Clinical Trials team due to the recent promotion of the current post holder. This would be an ideal developmental opportunity for a registered Technician with recent hospital experience to gain knowledge in a specialised pharmacy area. You will work closely alongside a team of experienced professionals to maintain and develop a high standard of care. The role will involve patient communication, liaison with clinicians, clinical pharmacists, nurse specialists as well as liaising closely with the Research and Development team.
Main duties of the job
You must be a qualified Pharmacy Technician and registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council. Hospital experience is essential. Have excellent organisational skills and the desire to provide a high quality, safe, effective and efficient service to our patients. You must be able to work under pressure, prioritise work and be able to work alone as well as part of a team. This specialist role ensures that Clinical Trial services are of a consistently high quality, in line with implementing the principles of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) including local policy and procedures.
The role also includes a regular operational commitment in order to maintain competencies and demonstrate fitness to practice as a registered pharmacy technician. This includes dispensing and accuracy checking of medicines within the Dispensary. You will also gain experience in writing Standard Operating Procedures, so we welcome applicants are are looking to develop into a more specialist role.
You'll need to be able to work over 7 days of the week, hours of work as required as the Pharmacy Department offers a weekend and bank holiday service which you will be expected to participate in.

Job responsibilities
You will be responsible for the day to day technical duties relating to Clinical Trials including Clinical Trials prescription management, reconciling and receiving orders from Clinical Trial Sponsors suppliers, and liaising with the relevant Sponsors to resolve discrepancies.
Works with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to review existing Clinical Trials including developing new Clinical Trials. Works with Clinical Pharmacy Team Leaders, Clinical Trials Lead Pharmacists and the Research and Development Team along with other Pharmacy staff to identify, plan, and develop new opportunities for Clinical Trial services.
Attend regular review meetings for Clinical Trials working closely with Clinical Trial Sponsors, Pharmacists, nurses, doctors, other healthcare professionals, and patients.
Maintain Clinical Trials Standard Operating Procedures and manage any changes/amendments to the process within the Clinical Trials service within the principles of Good Clinical Practice and the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).

- Have NVQ level 3 in Pharmaceutical Science and BTEC (or equivalent qualification)
- Registered Pharmacy Technician with General Pharmaceutical Council (minimum of 2 years post qualification)
- Hold an accredited accuracy checking technical qualification
Experience

- Additional specialist knowledge in specific area of pharmacy purchasing and/or Homecare
- IT experience in pharmacy purchasing systems, PC and office software
Desirable
- Experience in audit
- Able to act as a mentor and train staff (e.g. for Student Technicians , Pharmacy Assistants)
Skills & Knowledge

- Able to communicate with all grades of staff internally and externally, including staff, patients and Visitors on pharmacy business
