The site lead is responsible for the organisation and performance of all aspects of the routine and specialised services delivered by the Blood Sciences Department (Biochemistry, Haematology and Blood Transfusion). To work in conjunction with the service provided at all BSPS sites. Duties include staff performance, managing staff, equipment and finances in the most effective way. With the Deputy General Managers to ensure a coordinated and effective service is provided by best use of staff and resources.
Main duties of the job
In liaison with the Deputy General Managers and General Manager to monitor and control the budget. Directing the service in the most effective and efficient process to meet the service needs. To work collaboratively and to deputise for other senior Blood Sciences Managers as required and directed. This includes liaison with other Pathology areas and our users both within and external to the Trust. Working closely with the Network Lead group in Blood Sciences to ensure the production of the departmental rotas.
To use good time management to organise required tasks within own role and others in order to achieve targets. To ensure the department has a robust and effective CPD / appraisal process. To participate in this and to monitor the performance of staff in the department to ensure that departmental standards of work are maintained.
To apply operational skills and knowledge to prioritise workload and staff effort in order to meet target turnaround times and commercial contract obligations.
To work with the Deputy General Managers, the BSPS Quality Managers and General Manager to ensure compliance within the department to UKAS and other National Standards. To authorise reports according to specialist skill and departmental guidelines. To co-ordinate and participate in the review and updating of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), COSHH and risk assessments for the department.
To ensure the ANC screening returns are made annually as required.

- MSc in a Biomedical Science or equivalent
- Registered with HPC

Experience

- Broad up to date experience of delivery of a blood sciences service of similar type and size.
- Post-registration relevant experience of a blood sciences service, at a senior level.

- Recent Lead BMS experience in a similar sized laboratory.
- Budgetary control experience.

- Broad knowledge of a blood sciences specialism including clinical, laboratory and technical aspects.
