An exciting secondment opportunity is available for a motivated and innovative O/T to work as a Band 6 within a busy Assertive Outreach Team in a culturally diverse area.

This position would be suitable for a Registered Occupational Therapist with a qualification at degree level or equivalent and registration with a relevant professional body. Previous community experience working with service users with complex long term needs would be beneficial.

Assertive Outreach services adopt a shared team approach, working together to support and engage service users with psychosis, many with a history of multiple admissions and with complex needs, low levels of engagement and often behaviours that challenge teams. The team caseload is smaller to reflect the intensity of the work with service users and provides opportunities for ongoing rehabilitation.

You will work closely with the clinical lead OT to grow and develop the occupational therapy pathway within AOT, meeting regularly as an OT team. As a Band 6 within the service, there will be opportunities to develop leadership skills through the supervision, coaching and mentoring of band 5 staff, as well as therapy support staff.

We work with adults 25 years plus and support people who have historically avoided contact with mental health services and do this using a flexible and creative approach to engagement.

Main duties of the job

As an OT in our team you will be delivering interventions to enable individuals to participate in recovery-based community activities, engage in treatment and live successfully in their own homes or supported accommodation. You will also hold a small caseload of service users who would benefit from having an OT as a key worker.

Working alongside the MDT, you will develop activity programmes to engage individuals in meaningful occupations and facilitate psycho-social and psycho-educational workshops. This will aid in the development of service user-led, occupationally focused recovery plans for individuals and empower them in their recovery journey

You must be able to communicate effectively at all levels, demonstrate competent risk assessment and risk management skills and have a genuine interest in working with service users with severe and enduring mental health issues, and their carers'.

You will need to demonstrate a commitment to achieving the highest standards of care whilst utilising the care program approach framework and displaying your ability to work autonomously as well as being an effective member of the multi-disciplinary team. The post involves working within a multi-disciplinary team, focusing on the recovery model and interfacing with partner services and stakeholders, within a team focus.

The ability to drive and willingness to travel across the Birmingham & Solihull area for work purposes is required for this role.
