A rare opportunity for a permanent Band 6 specialist nurse post has become available in our children's Allergy service, based in our children's out patients department in Harrogate.

Working closely with the medical lead to manage the needs of CYP with allergies across our community, to participate in the BCG vaccination programme, and to carry out Specialist bloods.

Main duties of the job

To provide child centred professional expertise, advice, care and support for children with allergies, together with their families, facilitate the development of self-care skills and knowledge. This post also includes delivery of the BCG vaccination programme.

To liaise and communicate with other professionals and agencies to ensure optimum control of their condition.

To actively participate in personal and professional development.

To implement and evaluate family centred care and to be responsible for the delivery of care and assessment, development and evaluation of individual programmes of care.

To promote good evidence based practice in the diagnosis, treatment and care of children with allergic conditions.

To develop and maintain a broad and detailed knowledge of related conditions, their diagnosis, prognosis and management and impact on child and their family

To plan, assess, implement and evaluate programmes of care for patients within the service

To lead on allergy investigations, oral challenges, skin prick test interpreting and acting on results.

To assist in allergy clinics developing the service for nurse led clinics. Liaising withchildren, young people & their families.

Essential

  • oRegistered Nurse - Child field on NMC Register min. 2 years post reg
  • oDemonstrate previous experience of working with children and infants with allergies, including allergy testing & complex blood tests.
  • oExperience & evidence of vaccination training & administration.


Desirable

  • oRecognised qualification in allergy & vaccination nursing practice.
  • oNurse prescriber
  • oLeadership qualification
