We are delighted to be hosting a Paediatric & Neonatal Senior Staff Nurse Recruitment Open Day onSaturday 21 September 2024 at The Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trustand would love for you to attend and meet the team. Running from 10:00 until 14:00, this will be held in our new Oasis Staff Health and Wellbeing Center based on Craven Road opposite the main entrance to the hospital.

Staff will be on hand to discuss the support and development we can offer, and we can answer any questions you may have.

You will be given the opportunity to have a tour of the hospital, meet our clinical teams and other key staff from the Trust. You will have the chance to have an interview on the day, if you are successful, you will walk away with a conditional offer!

Main duties of the job

- Provide a leadership role model and demonstrate specialist knowledge and high standards of clinical practice and provide support where necessary.

- Co-ordinating shifts, managing ward flow and problem solving in a fast paced environment.

- Managing and monitoring workload, patient acuity and ensuring safe standards on a daily basis.

- Supporting junior members of the team, providing excellent leadership, support and guidance through monitoring and planning and evaluation of individualized care, ensuring appraisals are up to date and engaging with staff retention.

- Supporting ward sister in ward level management and trust initiatives.

- You should be a positive team player who has empathy and compassion, that has an ability to work effectively within a MDT team, with the skills to work under pressure, delegate well and interest in promoting a clean, safe, environment for our patients and their families.

- Ensuring the safeguarding and welfare of all patients and their families, ensuring good communication between health care professionals for the patient's individual needs.

Senior Band 6 Staff Nurse - Paediatrics (Dolphin/Lion Ward)

Band 6 staff nurse is to act as a role model in accordance to the trust behaviour framework and values, exhibiting excellence through practice and collaborating on a daily basis with the MDT team for best outcomes for our patient group. The role covers an acute medical pediatric ward treating children from birth to 16 years old.

The role includes Oncology, Safeguarding, eating disorders, HDU, orthopaedics, ENT, surgical and other childhood illnesses and accidents. The role includes coordinating, this requires experience being able to lead a shift, managing flow through departments, recognising the deteriorating child and supporting the ward in trust initiatives as well as ward level management of junior staff and quality improvement projects.

Ensure that others are alerted to quality issues.Assist in the monitoring and maintenance of the health, safety and security of self and others in work area. Identify and assess risks in work activities, and assist in developing strategies to manage these effectively. Ensure team works within risk management/ occupational health legislation and Trust procedures.Contribute to the implementation of the development of the service. Be aware of new evidence and research in both general and specialist fields. Work creatively to develop practice and new ways of working, taking the lead in the change management process when appropriate.Develop own skills, take responsibility for continuing professional development and performance, maintaining own portfolio in accordance with post-registration requirements. Works to achieve competencies appropriate to the grade. Is able to identify own development needs in relation to current practice and future plans, setting personal development objectives.In the absence of the Ward/Department Manager act as a signatory to authorise staffing requests to be considered by the Agency Control Group.
