Advanced Paediatric Dietitian Diabetes and Endocrine

Main duties of the job
Are you a dietitian with experience of working with children or adults with diabetes, looking to develop or expand your clinical skills? We are looking for a suitably experienced, motivated dietitian to join the Children and Young People's Diabetes Service at Southampton Children's Hospital, supporting children and young adults with diabetes from 0-19 years of age.
The service is part of the Wessex Paediatric Diabetes Network and supports a growing number of CYP with type 1 diabetes using hybrid closed loop systems.
A small part of this role will involve working in our regional endocrinology service which provides a service to infants, children, and young people across the south and the Channel Islands.

The department of dietetics and speech and language therapy employs approximately 130 staff, providing acute and community services for adults and paediatrics. We are supported by a large admin team and our teams work closely together on shared initiatives.

Main Responsibilities You will:
Work as an integral member of the diabetes MDT to provide dietetic education and support for children and young people with Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes from diagnosis through to transition to adult services. Manage a case-load of inpatients, multidisciplinary outpatient clinics and dietetic led outpatient clinics Educate and support CYP and their families in the use of diabetes technology, using innovative approaches Contribute to service development, clinical research and integrated working alongside a highly motivated multidisciplinary team with 2 other paediatric diabetes dietitians and one weight management dietitian. Work with the children's endocrine team via specialist MDT clinics
Experience and Skills
You will:
Have excellent communication skills and commitment to MDT working,Be able to work autonomously and as part of an inter-disciplinary team with the ability to prioritise and work to deadlines without compromising care. Have an excellent working knowledge of insulin pump therapy including hybrid closed loop systems and the dietary advice for these systemsBe able to demonstrate advanced analytical thinking, show attention to detail and possessexcellent interpersonal and leadership skillsYou must be able to voice your professional opinion and provide advice and guidance to dietetic and other health care professional colleaguesHave experience of supervising junior dietetic staff and or students

- Degree or equivalent in Nutrition and Dietetics
- Masters level qualification or equivalent experience
- HCPC (Health and Care professions Council) registered dietitian (RD)
- Evidence of post-graduate training in relevant speciality
- Experience of supervising staff
- Experience and involvement with training
- Evidence of extensive dietetic knowledge and highly specialist expertise in relevant specialist area with recent experience demonstrating this
- Ability to carry out physical anthropometric measurements and assess nutritional status
- Demonstration of understanding of clinical governance and its implications for service delivery
