This is a unique opportunity for an experienced Mental Health Registered Nurse, preferably dual registered, to lead our Neuropsychiatry Nursing Team and ensure the delivery of high-quality care to our patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The role encompasses ward leadership and the opportunity to work clinically within our service.
Working collaboratively with neurological, neurosurgical and neuro-psychological colleagues, you will play an active role in the assessment and management of patients with complex neuropsychiatric conditions occurring in the context of neurological disease and functional neurological symptom disorders.
You will also take on a ward leadership role for our 12 bedded inpatient unit, Hughlings Jackson ward, taking on line management responsibility for the ward manager and other nursing staff.
You will be an expert resource for the wider divisional team as part of our psychiatric liaison service providing expert advice on the management of patients with neuropsychiatric disorders and maintaining an excellent working knowledge of the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act.
Main duties of the job
As ward manager, you will lead a team of neuropsychiatric nurses and take on some line management responsibilities for this team. You will also work as an autonomous practitioner within the Functional Neurological Disorder service and use your clinical judgement to recommend treatment for patients and making decisions to admit or discharge patients from clinic.
You will also have an expert knowledge of the provisions of the Mental Health Act and be able to apply this knowledge to support your clinical decision making.
You will also have the opportunity to contribute to Trust-wide fora ensuring that the voice of neuropsychiatric nursing is considered.
