Main duties of the job
Are you an experienced and motivated paediatric dietitian looking to develop your clinical and leadership skills? Come and join our regional Paediatric Neurology service as dietetic lead, for the regional neuro-rehab inpatient service and the Neuro-Muscular outpatient service at Southampton Children's Hospital. The Paediatric Dietitians are a large, diverse team. There are excellent opportunities for CPD and career development. We have access to the paediatric grand round education events, protected CPD time and strong links with Southampton University. Audit, service evaluation, QI and research projects are actively encouraged.
We are a registered trainer for student dietetic placements an won the University of Winchester Placement Educator of the Year Award 2023.
The department of dietetics and speech and language therapy employs approximately 130 staff, providing acute and community services for adults and paediatrics. We are supported by a large admin team and our teams work closely together on shared initiatives.

You will join our Paediatric Neurology service as dietetic lead and will be an integral member of the regional multidisciplinary Neuro-rehabilitation (SCIRT) team, working on our dedicated neurology rehabilitation unit. You will be responsible for developing the dietetic service in the Neuro-Muscular service, with fortnightly multidisciplinary outpatient clinics. You will have access to leadership development and coaching courses in addition to clinically-focused CPD to support you in your role. All staff have access to the free gym, Wellbeing Hub and a low cost park and ride scheme.

You will:
Work as an autonomous practitioner, providing highly specialist clinical dietetic expertise to infants and children with neurological conditions, including acute brain injury on an inpatient and outpatient basis Develop the dietetic service in the Neuro-Muscular outpatient service Provide advanced dietetic assessments and individualised treatment plans for a complex specialist caseload Work closely with MDT colleagues to plan and deliver clinical services and initiatives Provide supervision, teaching and support for junior staff, ensuring adequate cover is in place during periods of staff absence Supervise a Band 6 Neurology Dietitian as part of the Band 6 Rotational programme Attend regular meetings with the other team leads and managers Lead on assigned projects and service developments within speciality area Provide advice and guidance to dietetic colleagues across the region as appropriate Facilitate the implementation of national standards and guidelines relevant to your clinical speciality Undertake data-collection, audit, evidence-based projects/research and review of clinical practice Experience and skills needed
You will:
Be a highly skilled paediatric dietitian with recent and significant experience of working in paediatrics, Have an excellent working knowledge of paediatric nutrition support You must be able to demonstrate advanced analytical thinking, show attention to detail and possess excellent interpersonal and leadership skills Be able to demonstrate your ability to work as an autonomous practitioner, providing highly specialist clinical dietetic expertise in a defined area Have experience of supervising junior dietetic staff and or students Have contributed to the development of policies and resources supporting delivery of evidence-based dietetics You must be able to voice your professional opinion and provide advice and guidance to dietetic and other health care professional colleagues Experience of leading or co-ordinating audit or research is desirable but not essential
