This is an exciting opportunity to join our pharmacy team at a senior level. We are looking for an experienced pharmacist in leading the clinical pharmacy services within the Surgical Division, and the Musculoskeletal (MSK) and Theatres and Critical Care (TACC) Care Groups at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust.

You must be a highly motivated Pharmacist who is enthusiastic about providing cost effective, clinically effective and safe patient-focused care.

You will have excellent communication skills

You will ensure that the service complies at all times with legal and professional requirements along with appropriate national and regional guidelines.

You will provide support to drug budget holders and financial stakeholders to ensure cost-effective use of medicines and delivery of Cost Improvement Plans.

You will be able to provide a high level of pharmaceutical support, advice and information to medical, nursing and other healthcare staff providing clinical care in the designated specialist area.

You will support Pharmacy Service research and development within the designated specialist area and contributes to the publication, presentation and dissemination of research and development.

Leads clinical audit in the designated specialist area as part of the multi-disciplinary audit process and supports the wider Pharmacy Service audit plan.

Main duties of the job

Develop and deliver any/all pathways between Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust and partners in primary care.

Participates in the provision of a comprehensive pharmaceutical service (including supporting specialist multidisciplinary teams) to the Division of Surgery at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust and to those organisations with which the Trust has a contract for supply of pharmaceutical services.

Ensures that the service complies at all times with legal and professional requirements along with appropriate national and regional guidelines.

Responsible for the delivery of a high quality, patient focussed service provided by the pharmacy team in the designated specialist area, and supporting colleagues in its wider delivery across the Trust through clinics.

Provides support to drug budget holders and financial stakeholders within the designated specialist area in order to ensure cost-effective use of medicines and delivery of Cost Improvement Plans.

Contributes to the strategic development of pharmacy services throughout the Trust.

The Pharmacy Service operates across three acute clinical Divisions and across the Community Services Division provided by the Trust. Applicants will be able to demonstrate significant experience managing a clinical pharmacy service. The post holder will be a key member of the Pharmacy Team working closely with stakeholders within Pharmacy and the Surgery Division.

Applicants must be able to contribute to the delivery of the strategic aims of the Pharmacy Service, aligned to the overall Trust objectives, within set financial constraints as well as deliver agreed cost improvement targets on an annual basis.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • oMasters Degree in Pharmacy (or equiv.)
  • oCompletion of a one year pre-registration programme
  • oCurrent UK professional registration as a Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • oPostgraduate Clinical Pharmacy diploma or equivalent advanced experience.


Desirable

  • oIndependent Prescriber


Experience

Essential

  • oAble to demonstrate a wider understanding of the workings of the NHS, including prescribing and medicines management
  • oComputer literate, particularly word processing spread sheets, email and use of practice clinical systems and internet searching.
  • oConsiderable experience working within Surgery
  • oExperience in dealing with patients/contractors/stakeholders
  • oExperience of providing prescribing and medicines management advice


Desirable

  • Experience of working within an adult critical care unit


Skills

Essential

  • oGood therapeutic knowledge - provides highly specialised advice and makes recommendations regarding individual patients' treatment. Reviews overall prescribing and individual prescriptions. Advises on safe, cost-effective changes and responding to any patient queries
  • oPresentation skills
