Same Day Emergency Care Unit

Glenfield Hospital

Full time 37.5hrs

Working a 4 to 5 day week

Part time hours will be considered but please call to discuss. Under 34.5hrs will not be considered sorry

Same Day Emergency Care Unit (SDEC) at Glenfield Hospital is , fully monitored ward, with a designated Triage and 7 trolleys Assessment area. It currently provides a monday to friday 09:30 to 22:00 service but with the intention of expanding to monday to sunday in near future .

Unique to other SDECS nationally, patients are admitted direct via 999 ambulance, Urgent Care Centre, Emergency Department Referral and GP referral with a range of cardiac and respiratory conditions.

Our SDEC unit can receive 30-50 emergency walk-in admissions daily of the same nature. SDEC is a demanding, but rewarding area to work in

You will work cohesively with the aligned Clinical decisions unit (CDU) which is a 46 beeded, fully monitored assessment unit. They provide support for SDEC for patients requiring admissions into beds or a deteriorating patient requiring additional medical and nursing interventions.

Main duties of the job

We are offering an opportunity for a motivated individual with the drive and enthusiasm to become as a Ward Sister/charge nurse.

We are looking for a forward thinking individual who is willing to lead and develop patient services working to improve the patient experience.

You must have a proven track record of progressive leadership and development.

Be an effective role model, self-motivated with the passion and adaptability to cope with continuously changing services.

You should possess excellent communication skills, be visible and accessible with quality and standards as your priority.

You will need to be flexible, learn to be resilient in order to cope with the demands of the role.

In addition you must be adaptable to change and influence your team members to enable you to implement and evaluate new ways of working.

We are would like applicants to be as flexible as possible however shift patterns can be negotiated on discussion however you will be expected to do a minimal of 4 days and more if unit demand requires it.

Job responsibilities

  • Be a visible, accessible, credible and assertive ward leader to whom patients, relatives and staff can turn for assistance, advice and support.
  • Lead the ward team and build successful links between nursing and other professions to support and promote effective multi-disciplinary team working.
  • Lead and support the ward team through the process of change, demonstrating tenacity, drive, professional integrity, balance and perspective.
  • Develop the role of other team members, supporting them in gaining the appropriate competencies to achieve the required standards of care.
  • Motivate all team members and lead innovation and expertise in clinical practice by example.
  • Take responsibility for ensuring that all learners in their area are appropriately supported and competently assessed in line with NMC guidelines and other professional bodies.
  • Through effective communication, disseminate information across the health care teams and CMGs.
  • Communicate and share clinical experiences and good practice within and across CMGs.
  • Resolve conflict as speedily as circumstances allow and ensure feedback and planning for the future occurs


Person Specification

Education

Essential

  • Recognised NMC Teaching and Assessing Qualification or equivalent


Desirable

  • Clinical leadership programme completed


Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of 5 years post registration including 2 years at band 6 level
  • Demonstrate complex decision making skills


Desirable

  • Experience in auditing and research and development


Knowledge

Essential

  • Demonstrates a high level of clinical expertise
  • Good knowledge and understanding of the role
