We are looking for an enthusiastic, committed psychologist or psychological therapist to contribute to the development and delivery of community adult mental health services in the city teams in Herefordshire.
  • There is opportunity for blended working (on site and from home).
  • Dependant on experience you will be appointed at band 7 or band 8a. If appointed at band 7, upon successful completion of the development plan you will move to a band 8a. Copies of both job descriptions are included in the supporting documents.

Herefordshire is at the forefront of Community Transformation. We have an integrated and inclusive psychological therapies pathway, offering a range of standalone psychological interventions as well as delivering care to those with more complex presentations. We have robust Emotion Regulation and Psychosis Pathways and are central to the development of Trauma Informed Care and promoting Compassionate Leadership across the Trust.

Main duties of the job

The post is integral to the Neighbourhood Community Mental Health Service, working alongside qualified psychologists, psychological therapists and art therapists. New roles include CAPs and MHWBPs.

We emphasise the value of psychological assessment, formulation and consultation early within a service-users journey. The post holder will provide specialist individual interventions and contribute to our extensive group programme. You will help to create and sustain more co-produced psychologically and trauma informed environments, across the system of care. You will be actively supported to develop service initiatives in line with key national and local priorities and with local partners.

This post will take a lead on managing our standalone psychological interventions pathway and be the link worker for this arm of the service. This will involve screening referrals, liaising with MDT colleagues and maintaining links with Talking Therapies service.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Behave consistently with and promote the values and beliefs of the organisation
  • Use their initiative, be responsible and accountable for providing a systematic psychology service, specialist psychological interventions, clinical and research supervision and training to other health and care staff as agreed with the service lead/manager.
  • Work with managers and team leaders to develop services and improve quality in consultation with the service lead.
  • Participate in national and regional professional speciality meetings and seminars as appropriate
  • Meet and maintain targets within the adult mental health service
  • Evaluate referrals, undertake the assessment, treatment and management of patients with psychological difficulties with a varying range of complexity and aetiology with reference to clinical need and service capacity.

Person Specification

Skills & Abilities

Essential

  • Highly developed and effective communication skills, both oral and written, including ability to communicate complex, highly personal and sensitive information.


Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and national guidance and their implication for clinical practice


Qualifications

Essential

  • Practitioner Psychologist: BSc/BA Honours degree at 2:1 or above in psychology
  • Post graduate Doctorate in Clinical/Counselling Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS)
  • Eligible for registration as a Chartered Psychologist (Clinical or Counselling) by the BPS
  • Registered with HCPC as a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist
  • Psychological Therapist: Post-graduate qualification in psychological assessment and psychological therapy (e.g. Post-graduate diploma in CBT, IAPT high intensity CBT diploma, CAT diploma)
  • Registered with a recognised professional registering body (e.g. HCPC, BABCP, NMC)
  • Significant experience working as a mental health professional (Psychological Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Nurse, Social Worker etc)
  • Accredited in a governed psychological therapy via a recognised accrediting body


Experience

Essential

  • Experience required specific to the role and clinical area
  • Experience of multi-agency and multi-disciplinary working
  • Significant experience of supervised practice
  • Experience of assessing and providing a wide range of interventions to a wide range of patients presenting with a full range of clinical severity.
  • Experience of teaching and training across a range of professional groups


Desirable

  • Some prior experience of supervising
