Would you love to be influencing service transformation as a part of a supportive leadership team reimagining community services for people with learning disabilities?
This full-time post is for a band 7 Highly Specialist Speech & Language Therapist (SLT) working across Berkshire within the Community Learning Disability Services (Adults).
You will be skilled in the use of advanced assessment, diagnosis and treatment programmes with individual clients who have complex needs (physical health, mental health and/or behaviour that challenges). You will be expected to work alongside other allied health professionals and external organisations within a multi-disciplinary team framework.
You will contribute to the development of service provision within the Learning Disability Service, alongside the operational team leads and professional leads. This includes ensuring best practice across the learning disability service within the Children, Families and All Age (CFAA) Division.
You will lead the development of other therapists within the LD Speech and Language Therapy service offering support, mentoring, training and specialist advice, as well as defining core competencies for staff to work towards.
Opportunities for flexible working, including working from home, can be agreed in line with the needs of the service

Main duties of the job
- Leading the Speech & Language Therapy team,
- Working from the base at Erlegh House in Reading with colleagues from the community learning disability service
- You will assess, diagnose, treat and mange a highly specialised and complex caseload of clients referred into this specialist service. You will develop and implement person centred interventions regarding both communication and dysphagia needs
- Work closely alongside all members of the MDT, providing clinical support and professional exchange of ideas and experience.
- Develop care protocols / pathways relating to the specialist area to improve quality engagement and consistency of care for people who use our services.
- Represent SLT at a managerial level and to participate at this level in the continuing development of the services.
- Be responsible for and to carry out supervision and appraisal, in accordance with Trust Policy, of other AHP members of the team as is required.
- Work with colleagues to manage demands placed on the service.
