An exciting opportunity has arisen for you to join our Older Peoples Therapy Team as a Senior Occupational Therapist.

This post is based at the Poole site which is part of University Hospitals Dorset. This is a fantastic opportunity where you will be supported to enhance your clinical practice and develop extended skills in frailty, whilst working alongside our highly regarded and innovative Older Person's Team in the hospital. This role will encompass the use of excellent clinical and leadership skills, encouraging you to work holistically developing yourself and colleagues. You will receive regular supervision and training and have responsibility for the supervision of others and contribute to the team training programme.

This post will also provide you with opportunities to develop managerial skills and contribute to and lead on service development within the team and wider services.

This role requires HCPC Registration

Main duties of the job

You will have the opportunity to develop specialised skills in frailty in a fast paced environment. Your caseload will enable you to promote optimising recovery with early assessment of occupational performance in daily living activities. Assessment and education of optimal moving and handling with appropriate equipment provision and assessment of cognition will be intrinsic to this role. You will need to work in partnership with health and community providers in the county to enable Discharge to Assess and Home First Principles.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to support patients within the acute hospital and within their own homes to ensure they receive the right service in the best place for them.

Participation in weekend working is an integral aspect of this post. This post is based from Poole Hospital however we have therapy teams also based from our Bournemouth and Christchurch sites, and cross-site working will become a requirement.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Diploma/ degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Registration with HCPC


Desirable

  • Membership of the RCOT


Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of 18 months experience as a Band 5 in the NHS.
  • Experience of a range of rotations including medicine, orthopaedic, older people & rehabilitation.


Desirable

  • Involvement in audit, research & understanding of quality issues.


Technical skills

Essential

  • Contribution to the clinical education of less experienced staff, students or assistants
  • Up- to-date with professional practice and new research
  • Able to present information, written and verbal, in a clear & logical manner
  • Ability to organise, prioritise & delegate
  • Understanding of clinical governance & its implications
  • Able to carry out moderate to intense physical effort throughout the day and carry out concurrent activities
  • Able to cope in a stressful environment and with emotional or aggressive patients & carers
  • Able to work well across teams to meet patient and service priorities


Desirable

  • Supervision & appraisals of juniors, assistants or students
  • IT skills


Other requirements

  • Possession of a clean UK driving licence
