The Clinical Research Midwife will be working closely with our team of clinical research midwives across the UHS sites to delivery high quality research in Obstetrics and Midwifery. They will initially be supervised in their provision of the day to day management of an allocated portfolio of studies. This includes successful recruitment and retention of patients, strict protocol adherence, data collection, and organisation of relevant tests and procedures.

The post holder will manage the Obstetric/Maternity portfolio of studies, ensuring successful recruitment, adherence to protocols, data collection, and organisation of tests, procedures and medication. They must possess specialised Obstetric knowledge for complex clinical trials and provide expert care to participants. Flexibility and adaptability are essential due to the dynamic nature of the portfolio.

The post holder will promote research within Trust departments and support colleagues and investigators to deliver high-quality research for patient care.

Main duties of the job

Responsibilities include collaborating with the research team to support and manage clinical trials, maintaining project records, and fostering professional relationships across professional boundaries. The post holder will proactively manage change to achieve results and drive initiatives in line with organisational strategies and health trends.

This post is 30 hours per week from Monday to Friday. The days/ times the hours are worked over will be agreed with the post holder prior to their start.

  • Provide delivery of high-quality care and clinical research.
  • Coordinate portfolio of research studies using expert clinical and research knowledge.
  • Independently assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care and research protocols delivered to patients/participants, involving their carers and or relatives.
  • Ensure patient/participation treatment is in accordance with clinical research & local protocols and Good Clinical Practice.
  • Continually evaluate the quality of the care given, regularly assessing the needs of the patients/participants and effects change required to ensure their safety.
  • Collaborate with other health care professionals as necessary to optimise patient/participant care.
  • Participate in decisions concerning the treatments that are given within the context of the research protocol and care of the patient/participant.
