New training posts for CAMHS clinicians interested in Systemic Family Practice.

This is an exciting opportunity for 3 CAMHS clinicians who are passionate about working with children, young people and their families to develop their skills in family therapy. You would be enrolled in the CYP-IAPT 12 month post-graduate diploma in Systemic Family Practice beginning in February 2025. Following successful completion of the diploma, you would be employed in the CAMHS service offering therapeutic work to children and their families, offering interventions for children presenting with a range of difficulties.

If you have a core professional qualification, 2 years full-time therapeutic experience in a mental health setting working clinically with CYPs, a passion for working with children and families and are able to commit to the requirements of the course then this may be the opportunity for you.

Due to the demands of the course, successful applicants will need to take up a full-time position.

Main duties of the job

You will need to attend an interview and be enrolled at the University of Northampton. The Post-graduate Diploma is a full-time programme with 36-40 days of face-to-face/online teaching, 36 days of practice based learning and 6 dates of assessment. You would need 8 cases for depression/self-harm/conduct issues students, or 3 cases for eating disorders students, and a minimum of 48 sessions and 60 clinical hours. The study commitment is 125 hours of independent study time.

The course requires academic study including writing essays, case studies and completing a portfolio. Students who have not complete a first degree may register for the PG Diploma as an associate student and transfer to full diploma once they have passed their first level 7 module.

You would work clinically within the CAMHS partnership/ED team, hold a caseload, attend MDT meetings and attend training. You would be supervised by a qualified family therapy from CAMHS and small group supervision at the University.

Job description

Job responsibilities

You would hold a caseload of patients with varying levels of complexity, demonstrating awareness of how moderate to severe mental health difficulties affect children and young people. You would work with experienced clinicians and provide assessment and intervention to CYPs to promote mental health recovery.

You would undertake risk assessments and risk management of individuals presenting with vulnerability, self-harm and/or physical, sexual or emotional harm to themselves or others. You would need to manage and respond to the distress of others and access additional support and advice when needed.

You would work closely with other members of MDTs and liaise with partnership agencies supporting interventions that are evidence based and meet the needs of the young person. You would work with autonomy and initiative with the limits of your knowledge, experience and professional training, attending clinical and management supervision, and working collaborative as part of the MDT.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Working knowledge of Health Service
  • Working knowledge of mental health issues in CAMH Services
  • A good knowledge of own professional guidelines such as NMC/HCPC
  • Good knowledge of recognised disorders and illnesses in the field of mental health
  • Understanding of a range of communication styles when working with children and families in distress
  • Hold an interest in a specialist area
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act


Experience

Essential

  • Extensive post registration experience in mental health care including mental health assessment and risk assessment
  • Use of therapeutic interventions within mental health settings i.e. 1:1, counselling, family therapy and group work
  • Delivering teaching / training
  • Providing consultation


Desirable

  • Working with children and young people
  • Working in inpatient settings
  • Liaison across Tier I-IV CAMH Services
  • Providing care in community settings
  • Developing a specialist area on behalf of the Service/ or local Team
  • Developing policies and protocols

Qualifications

Essential

  • Professional clinical qualification RMN, OT, Social Worker etc.
  • Evidence of post registered clinical qualifications, training or be able to demonstrate an equivalent level of training to a minimum of post graduate diploma level
  • Current registration with relevant professional body
  • I understand that I will be asked to provide original certificates to verify my qualifications at point of offer


Desirable

  • Specific qualification in a relevant therapeutic speciality e.g. counselling, Family Therapy, CBT, substance misuse
  • Non-medical prescriber
