Are you currently working with patients who have a diagnosis of cancer, and wish to develop a career as a Clinical Nurse Specialist? We have a unique opportunity for a caring and compassionate nurse who wants to work in the field Skin Cancer at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.

As a band 6 you will be expected to meet the essential criteria, possess the relevant post registration experience as outlined in the person specification, and be willing to undertake specialist courses at post graduate level.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for supporting patients with Skin cancer and their carers and facilitating their care pathway. This will include carrying out holistic needs assessments, care planning, providing symptom control advice, psychological support, simple benefits advice, information and support in clinics and on wards. You will also act as a contact person (key worker) for the patient and liaise with all health professionals involved in their care.

You will be expected to play a supportive role in ensuring the team comply with local and national policy, clinical governance and Peer review. You will work collaboratively with referring clinicians and all members of the extended multidisciplinary team including imaging departments, consultants, clinical nurse specialists, research teams, acute oncology, specialist palliative care, ward nursing teams, and administrative teams. You will work within a small team of skin cancer nurse specialists and undertake some nurse-led clinics after full training has been completed.

Training and qualifications

Essential

• Current NMC registration with no restrictions to practice
• Specialist training relevant to role.
• To include diploma level specialist training/short courses
• Significant experience at band 5 or above in specialist area, or relevant area with transferable skills.

Desirable

• Previous experience in skin cancer
• Degree with relevance to specialism
• Advanced Communications course Palliative care course or experience

• Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team
• oExcellent communication both written and verbal and interpersonal skills.

• Counselling qualification Communication course
