Specialist Haemoglobinopathy Midwife
Manchester Local Care Organisation (MLCO) is a partnership organisation established 1st April 2018 to provide and manage integrated community health and social care across the city of Manchester.

The Manchester Sickle Cell and Thalassemia Centre provides a high-quality specialist nursing/midwifery service to the residents of Greater Manchester who are 'at risk' of having or have been found to have an unusual haemoglobin type. Services offered include health management for adults and children, genetic counselling and follow-up as part of the antenatal and new-born screening programmes as well as pre-conceptual screening. The service also supports community groups by providing information and raising awareness of haemoglobinopathies.
The post-holder will primarily be responsible for providing health education, support, clinical advice, screening and genetic counselling of women and their partners in the antenatal period, including prenatal diagnosis issues. In addition, the post-holder will be responsible for support, advice and counselling of families in the neonatal period, including the services and treatment options available.
Main duties of the job
Deliver effective, time critical specialist midwifery care in the MLCO Community Sickle Cell and Thalassemia service as detailed within the National Antenatal and New-born screening Programme liaising closely with the MFT Obstetric, Neonatal, Paediatric, Haematology and Laboratory services (i.e. sharing a caseload).
Actively follow up all clients who require further support, advice and counselling. Help to organise and support the band 7 lead Midwife in joint obstetric antenatal clinic and with intra-partum and postnatal care of women with sickle cell and thalassemia disorders.
