An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our well-established Paediatric Respiratory Long-Term Ventilation (LTV) Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) team, as a Deputy Clinical Nurse Specialist at the Evelina London Children's hospital.
We are looking for a passionate and enthusiastic individual with excellent transferable paediatric nursing skills, communication skills and a desire to advocate for children and young people with complex needs and their families. The successful candidate will be a highly-motivated, to be part of a multi-disciplinary team who will have the opportunity to enhance their skills and knowledge in this specialty.
The paediatric LTV service, covers the local population and acts as the tertiary hub for a network of secondary care services across South London, Kent, Surrey and Sussex.
We treat children in various clinical settings such as, outpatients and those admitted to our in-patients' wards. These CYP have a range of conditions and needs which can affect their ability to breath. The role involves supporting the initiation, education, discharge and support of technology dependent CYP with highly complex medical needs.
Our ideal candidate would have excellent communication skills, an ability to work alongside professionals from different professional backgrounds including social care and community-based establishments. Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be involved with outpatient clinics, virtual clinics, transition from paediatric to adult care clinics, MDT clinics, as well as assisting with complex discharges and liaising with other teams in the network and community services.
The successful candidate will work in collaboration with an existing CNS team to act as a resource of expert advice for other healthcare professionals and must be competent to deliver health promotion and education to parents, their families and others.
To work collaboratively with other paediatric clinical and operational teams to ensure effective communication between the multi-disciplinary team at the Evelina and provide co-ordinated care in collaboration with others specialist services, such as the paediatric ENT, cardiology, COMPAS, gastroenterology or neurology teams, where appropriate.
Communicate effectively across the regional network, to provide a co-ordinated equitable specialist service delivery, liaising with both primary care and district general hospitals and working with schools and charities.
To use specialist knowledge to effectively communicate with families, providing education, reassurance and on-going support to children and families about their diagnosis, treatment options and outcomes.
Educate and empower children and families to learn the skills to self-manage their condition and care.
Provide telephone and email support to families, which can at times be very sensitive.
