We are excited to announce that due to recent Band 6 promotions we have an opening for 2x Band 5 Occupational Therapists to join the service providing Occupational Therapy assessment, intervention and discharge planning to a wide range of patients.
You will have the opportunity to experience 9 month rotations within the areas of Stroke, Complex Care (Critical Care and Neuro-rehabilitation), Frailty, Medicine, Surgery, Trauma, Elective Orthopaedics and Rheumatology. The Band 5 rotation process includes the opportunity for you to state your preference of clinical setting.
Your caseload will have special emphasis on patients with acute illness or injuries, requiring assessment and treatment skills and the ability to discharge the patients home or onto the most appropriate service this includes working within tight timeframes for patient discharges. Our out-patient rotations aim to achieve the best possible occupational outcomes for each individual.
You will be supported to develop the necessary skills to take a proactive role within the Occupational Therapy teams within your base hospital, with the ability to provide advice or cover on other Trust sites as required. You will liaise with senior Occupational Therapists to ensure the smooth and effective running of the Occupational Therapy service at an operational level on a daily basis. You will receive profession- specific Band 6 and Band 7 supervision, alongside an OT specific development structure.
Main duties of the job
You will be working with and supported by a very skilled work force and expected to work within a multi professional environment. This includes a Band 8a Clinical Practice and Education Lead OT who is involved in the Recruitment and ongoing development of the Band 5 OTs upon our Rotation scheme.
The Band 5 rotation is being actively developed to create a programme of regular group CPD sessions, One-ones, opportunities for observed practice sessions, all of which are designed to enhance your personal and clinical development.

There will be 9 month rotations based at Worcestershire Royal Hospital and the Alexandra Hospital, Redditch and will offer clinical experience in the following areas:
You will develop skills in acute illness management manual handling assessment and interventions development of knowledge and experience around equipment provision end of life and palliative care discharge planning.
You will develop skills, knowledge and experience of acute stroke. You will work closely with the MDT, following national guidelines in order to facilitate discharge planning.
You will develop the skills and knowledge to facilitate discharge planning including fast paced discharges and be introduced to specialist equipment provision, including wheelchairs for amputees. You will participate in a range of community visits to support discharge planning and liaison with community services.
You will be enabled to develop confidence in administering assessments, including cognitive assessments following acute traumatic brain injury. You will participate in access/community visits to support discharge planning. There is a strong emphasis on occupational focused assessments post-surgery.
You will be working with patients with a range of complex neurological conditions based on the medical wards. You will be supported by skilled senior OTs to participate in cognitive and mood assessments. There is the opportunity to develop skills in upper limb splinting to support occupational performance.
You will develop skills, knowledge and experience in the specialist area of Geriatric Elderly medicine, including person-centred Dementia care. You will have the opportunity to be involved with complex discharge planning, MDT working and multi-factorial assessment and discharge planning.
You will develop the skills, knowledge and practice to be involved in the assessment and treatment of rheumatological conditions that have an impact on occupational performance. This is an Out-patient OT Service supported by experienced Senior OT staff. You will develop skills in upper limb splinting and gain experience of MDT working.
