An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated, dynamic and suitably qualified professional to join us as Lead Nurse for the Merthyr Cynon Mental Health Clinical Service Group within Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board .

The successful candidate will need to inspire and motivate a large workforce, build excellent relationships through good communication skills, and have a strong eye for detail and most importantly, for professional standards. They must be willing to embrace a broad range of new challenges and possess the knowledge and drive to create and deliver innovative opportunities for developing population health and patient care.

As a key member of the senior leadership team you will work closely with the Clinical Director, Clinical Services Group Manager, Senior Nurses and Local Authority partners, as well as 3rd sector colleagues.

The successful candidate will be a Registered Mental Health Nurse who is committed to delivering person-centered high quality mental health services

Main duties of the job

The Lead Nurse role will require strong clinical leadership, ensuring a professional, visible role model to nurses.

The Lead Nurse is professionally accountable for the delivery of high quality, safe and effective care for the services within the sphere of responsibility.

The Lead Nurse will lead a culture of quality improvement, which provides new ideas, approaches, innovation or insights, ensuring that plans are developed and taken forward to improve patient care and services.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post.

The post holder will be responsible in conjunction with the Head of Nursing for the quality and patient experience of services within the appropriate locality Clinical Service Group ensuring optimum standards of patient care via the effective and efficient management of human, financial and physical resources.

The post holder will lead on a portfolio of work identified by the Head of Nursing or Locality Director of Nursing, focused on improving the quality of care and patient experience across the Clinical Service Group supported by the Senior Nursing Team.

The post holder will deputise for the Head of Nursing when necessary, undertaking any responsibilities, as delegated, and leading portfolios of work as required.

The post holder will be a key senior member of the Clinical Service Group working closely with the management team, playing a key role in the, development of services and service improvement to include Health & Social care integration. The post holder will have a key responsibility for the delivery of the Quality Agenda within the Clinical Service Group.

The post holder will provide nursing leadership and expert nursing advice within the Clinical Service Group, and will work closely with the Head of Nursing and Locality Nurse Director to ensure that a high standard of patient care is delivered.

The post holder will lead nursing practice in collaboration with the Head of Nursing d will be expected to develop innovative practice in relation to the provision of nursing services to patients. The post holder will be expected to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team and external partners.

The post holder will be required to support the Head of Nursing, Locality Nurse Director and Clinical Director to deliver the Clinical Governance programme for the Clinical Service Group in line with the Health Boards Quality and Patient Safety Governance Framework (2019).

The post holder will be part of the Senior Manager on call rota, and will be expected to be part of an on-call roster, covering an identified shift in line with the current agreed on call process.

The post holder will be expected to work with the minimum of supervision and co-ordinate their activities in order to ensure that an efficient service is provided.

Person Specification Qualifications and Knowledge Essential
  • Professional Nursing Registration applicable to area of practice
  • Evidence of further study/knowledge, experience and skills at Master's Level or equivalent
  • Management qualification, and/or recruitment and selection, appraisal and other HR/People Management related training
Experience Essential
  • Significant relevant leadership/management role in a large complex healthcare organisation
  • Significant post registration clinical experience
  • Proven experience in managing and implementing change and service redesign
  • Proven experience in partnership working and multi-agency
Knowledge Essential
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Professional and NHS issues and policy and the ability to interpret policy at a locall
  • Understanding of the UHB objectives and priorities and the ability to work across operational and Local Authority boundaries
