As part of the exciting community mental health transformation program in Luton, new opportunities have arisen for a registered mental health professional to work with our Primary Care Network Groups.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a mental health practitioner from any professional background wishing to further develop their career. The candidate will have experience of working in a primary care or community service and be passionate about delivering high quality mental health care in a primary care setting.
The successful candidate will show compassion and empathy for people living with a mental health condition, will be of a kind and approachable nature, and will be able to make service users and carers feel comfortable and at ease. We would like you to have a holistic approach to care and look beyond just a persons struggles with their mental health to enable you to support them as a whole person, not just a diagnosis.
Main duties of the job
The practitioner will work closely with our new integrated mental health services, primary care and the voluntary care sector to deliver and facilitate access to interventions to improve mental well-being. The Primary Care Mental health offer is an integral part of our multi-agency approach to mental health in Luton
The practitioner will work and be based in GP practices in Luton, aligned to one of the seven Luton Primary Care Networks (PCN) alongside our Senior Primary care mental health practitioners. They will work to bridge the gap between primary and secondary care and will work as part of the multi-agency team to undertake triage and assessment. They will deliver a range of interventions to individuals requiring mental health support and facilitate onward support from partners and specialist services.

Person Specification Education/ Qualification/ Training Essential
- oRegistered Mental Health care professional, with current registration with relevant body eg NMC, Social Work England or HCPC.
- oEvidence of post registration continued professional development, qualifications or equivalent experience
- oEducated to degree level or equivalent experience
- oMinimum of one year post-registration experience and completion of preceptorship/ASYE as applicable
- oExperience of multiagency working
- oPrevious experience of working with people experiencing complex mental health presentations
- oPrevious experience in delivering biopsychosocial mental health interventions
- oExperience of undertaking specialist mental health assessments and assessment of need.
- oExperience of comprehensive assessment of risk and developing risk management strategies
- oPrevious experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team in primary or community setting
Knowledge and Skills Essential
- oGood knowledge of current and relevant local and national agendas that impact upon PCNs, mental health services and the wider health and social care system and the ability to understand and disseminate this knowledge to others.
- oSound knowledge and understanding of the Mental Health Act (1983/ 2007/ 2014/5), Care Act (2014), relevant national standards and other relevant national policies.
- oExcellent knowledge & understanding of recovery principles and NICE guidance in relation to common mental disorders and the ability to ensure that evidence based practice with clear clinical outcomes is embedded into practice.
- oDemonstrate a knowledge base for substance use and associated risks.
- oDemonstrate a competency in using electronic clinical systems and associated Microsoft Office products or equivalent software.
- oAwareness of the impact of socio-economic factors, inequalities and/or the wider determinants of health, upon an individual and their family
- oAble to demonstrate a commitment to self-development via Continued Professional Development
