Due to the retirement of the previous post holder, we are very pleased to be able to advertise the post of MSK Consultant Physiotherapist in Somerset. The post holder will work clinically with in the MSK pathway in Somerset and will work with the existing MSK service managers to ensure pathways are efficient and effective in providing excellent care for patients with MSK conditions in Somerset.

The MSK Consultant will lead the governance of the MSK pathway which includes, First Contact Physiotherapy, Community and Acute MSK out patients, Orthopaedic Assessment Service in Somerset(OASIS) and Physiotherapists working in Secondary Care Consultant clinics.

We are looking for an individual who meets the requirement of the AHP Consultant Framework: demonstrating knowledge and experience, at the highest level, in the four pillars of practice and with substantial experience in clinical leadership and influencing at a system-wide level.

Main duties of the job

The role of the AHP Consultant is nationally defined. It consists of four components: Expert clinical practice, Research, Teaching and Leadership. All four components will be undertaken by the post holder to bring innovation, influence, clinical leadership, and strategic direction to the development and delivery of a FCP service, musculoskeletal physiotherapy service and the orthopaedic assessment service in Somerset (OASIS) for the population served by Somerset NHS FT.

Job description Job responsibilities

The Consultant Physiotherapist will:

• Lead, innovate and influence clinical leadership for the Musculoskeletal Services and actively develop this clinical area using recognised national and international best standards of practice, and to offer advice on the future strategic planning and development of MSk services in the wider context of service redesign across the health economy.
• Be responsible for ensuring close working relationships within this specialty across primary care, the community & secondary care facilitating collaborative service developments and strategic planning.
• Be at the forefront of developing practice through promoting an evidence-based culture as well as disseminating research findings.
• Work at an advanced practice level. 50% of the post holders job plan will be spent in direct autonomous clinical practice, providing clinical input and/or clinical consultative sessions providing leadership for clinicians.
• Play a lead role in education & training, research, audit and service evaluation agendas within the Musculoskeletal services.
• Work in partnership with team members on strategic developments and innovations between Trusts and external agencies.
• Promote Somerset NHS FT as a national leader in musculoskeletal care.
• Work with HEIs and workforce development professionals to influence the development of pre and post graduate curriculum for MSK physiotherapy.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential

• Masters in a relevant subject
• HCPC registered

Desirable

• PhD or evidence of working towards PhD

Physiotherapy Experiance Essential

• wide variety of MSK experience covering OASIS/2nd care clinics and/or primary care/MSK OPD

Reasearch Essential

• evidence of research development, completion and dissemination/publication
• evidence of service evaluation and audit with dissemination of results

leadership Essential

• evidence of collaborative system working in the NHS
• examples of leading strategic development
• examples of change management
• evidence of advanced clinical leadership

Education Essential

• experience in teaching MSK knowledge and skills to a variety of professional groups
