An exciting opportunity has arisen for the appointment of a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist at the specialist older person's assessment facility in Charlton Lane.

Charlton Lane Hospital is a specialist hospital which provides assessment and treatment predominantly for patients with late on set mental health problems including dementia and physical health concerns. It has been designed in conjunction with Stirling University to be as dementia friendly as possible and incorporates a high level of technology to provide an advanced level of assessment and care.

The hospital has 48 beds split between three wards; two provide care for patients experiencing functional mental health problems and one ward providing specialist care for dementia of any age. All the wards are also trained and equipped to deal with a wide range of physical issues including tissue viability and wound care, continence, catheter care, venepuncture, ECG's, sub cutaneous fluids and nutrition. All staff are trained to a high degree of physical health care as well as their mental health specialism.

The successful applicant will responsible for delivering high quality care and treatment within the scope of the Speech and Language role.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide a specialist Speech and Language Therapy Service within the Mental Health Services for Older People Inpatient Hospital
  • To provide communication assessments and interventions to individuals or groups of clients
  • To provide eating and drinking assessments and interventions to individual clients
  • To provide clinical supervision for less experienced Speech and Language Therapists and for Speech and Language Therapy Students
  • To carry out delegated tasks in policy development

This post requires the post holder to be able to undertake all statutory and mandatory training and post holders must be able to undertake physical interventions. Fitness for physical intervention will be assessed by Occupational Health.
