We are looking for a dynamic and highly motivated person to join our Acute Pain team. The candidate must be a first level registered nurse, educated to degree/masters level. Will be a qualified or working towards a non-medical prescriber, have a teaching / assessing qualification. Have significant experience of working in the field of acute pain management. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with an existing band 7 to provide leadership and management to the junior team members.
Good communication and leadership skills are essential for the role, you will be expected to educate and support junior members of the nursing and multidisciplinary team working within acute pain and the ward setting. The individual must be enthusiastic, committed and demonstrate a passion for delivering the highest standard of patient care though quality improvement and education.
Experience with service improvement and change management is required.
The successful candidate should be able to develop and facilitate education packages linked with acute pain management .
Work in a supervisory way to support junior staff and demonstrate good communication and leadership skills.
Main duties of the job
As a part of the senior team you would expect to undertake standard setting and policy development. Undertake audit, take an active part in clinical governance and work with the multidisciplinary team members to further develop the service Acute Pain.
Work as a member of the Acute Pain nursing team assessing surgical patients in line with Acute pain recommendation and policy
The role requires a none medical prescriber qualification or working towards and experience in prescribing analgesia for surgical patients .
Work in line with HR recommendations when managing junior team members.

We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

The post holder will collaboratively lead and manage the acute pain nursing team.
To promote patient centred high quality evidence based care to patients on the ward, ensuring the patient is central to all aspects of treatment and care.
Management and allocation of daily case load of inpatients following surgery and patient with complex acute pain management problems.
To communicate effectively with all the multi- disciplinary teams both internal and external to the organisation.
Development and delivery of education and training programmes for staff involved in the management ofacute pain within the Trust
To continually develop and where appropriate improve the service offered to patients, relatives and staff within the service area and contribute to care improvement initiatives across the care group.
Independent non -medical prescriber or working towards , who will actively prescribe medication linked to acute pain requirements of surgical patients and guide ward based medical staff and nursing staff on the use of analgesia.
Undertake audit and research projects linked with acute pain management.
Develop and update relavant policies and procedures linked to the Acute pain service
