The Royal Marsden Hospital is one of Europe's largest Oncology centres and was the world's first hospital dedicated to cancer research, diagnosis, treatment and education. This post is based at our Cavendish Square site where we see both private care and NHS patients. There are also sites in Chelsea and Sutton.

We are currently inviting applications from enthusiastic radiographers for a senior diagnostic radiographer post (MRI and CT) for our Cavendish Square site in central London. The successful candidate will rotate between MRI and CT. The successful candidate should have significant MRI experience (ideally at least two years). CT training can be provided where required.

The successful candidate should be a highly motivated radiographer with good communication skills, who is keen to contribute positively to the imaging service at Cavendish Square.The ideal candidate must demonstrate a commitment to professional development and show a keen interest in the future of their profession and the diagnostic imaging services. They will be expected to support both the service and its staff in continuing to maintain and develop the highest standards of imaging. In return the successful applicant will be offered a high standard of support towards their career pathway.

Main duties of the job

Key skills required:
  • Postgraduate certificate is desirable.
  • Significant experience and skills are required within MRI (ideally at least two years). CT training can be provided where required.
  • Previous cannulation experience would be desirable.
  • Applicants should be able to demonstrate post graduate experience sufficient for the role.

  • To perform clinical MRI scans to produce diagnostic information appropriately as required by current protocols.
  • To maintain the highest standard of practical and theoretical knowledge to ensure a standard of excellence in MRI techniques, so that protocols may be modified in an appropriate manner in view of clinical indications, imaging findings or patient condition and problems in image quality are recognized and acted upon
  • To be aware of COSHH and Health and Safety at Work Act and ensure their guidelines are followed. To be fully aware of the potential hazards of working in an area of strong magnetic field and to be familiar with the safety guidelines issued by MHRA.

The radiology service at Cavendish Square provides an essential outpatient service and offers mammography, CT, MRI, ultrasound and x-ray. We are currently aligned to the quality standard for imaging.

Our partnership with the institute of cancer research and other key organisations means we offer access to the newest clinical trials and clinical trials of novel anti-cancer agents, all imaging modalities are fundamental to this process and forefront techniques and protocols are constantly being evolved within radiology across all our sites.

Person Specification

Education/Qualifications

Essential

  • State registration
  • DCR/BSc in Radiography
  • Cannulation certificate or completed workbook
  • Significant recent post graduate experience in cross sectional imaging


Desirable

  • Post Graduate certificate


Experience

  • Evidence of good organisation and communication
  • Evidence of leadership and team building


Desirable

  • Experience in supervision of diagnostic radiographer staff in modalities
