We are looking for a motivated, innovative and experienced Advanced Nurse Practitioner to join our team in County Durham (based in Bishop Auckland Hospital, and working in the community). The successful candidate will lead and support the multi-disciplinary Sexual Health team, and ensure the safe and effective running of the clinics. We deliver sexual health services across County Durham from two Level 3 Hubs and ten Level 2 Spokes.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for making professionally autonomous decisions, for which they are accountable, assessing patients who may present with both undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems, as well as for follow up routine care.
The post holder will provide community and / or hospital based sexual health services within an identified Hub area, providing this level of cover when required across the associated localities and will liaise closely with the other Advanced Nurse Practitioners within the Service.
The post holder will prescribe relevant treatment as a non-medical prescriber.
The post holder will have significant responsibility for ensuring the delivery of the key performance indicators within the sexual health service specifications and will operationally performance manage the team to ensure this happens.

Job responsibilities
To independently initiate, diagnose, treat and/or review patients, for a number of STIs and/or genital conditions and contraception.
To organise and develop case work in relation to Health Adviser/Clinical Nurse Specialist in GU including patient education, prevention of infection, partner notification and relevant ongoing support
Provide clinical advice and support to all nurses/nurse practitioners in the speciality
Provide specialist clinical and professional advice as the speciality evolves, develops and changes within the specialist group
Assist in the development of clinical policies and protocols for the speciality
Provide specialist advice and information regarding a full range of contraception and STI/genital conditions
Provide brief interventions (smoking, substance misuse, etc) in consultations
Assessment and referral of patients with safeguarding issues
Provide HIV prevention, diagnosis, support and ongoing care for HIV patients
To utilise excellent planning and organisational skills when planning service delivery, planning staff cover of an appropriate skill mix and comparing a range of options for safe service delivery
Overseeing the organisations as well as teams objectives when planning and implementing programmes of care and service delivery
Ensuring that the service delivers its core specification within allocated resources, including the establishment and review of booked procedure and walk in clinics.
Ensure the provision of effective management, supervision, appraisal and support to staff by promoting a culture of continuous learning and development.
Review workforce planning with the other Advanced Nurse Practitioners within the Service, and be responsible for the recruitment and selection of nursing staff
Ensure a high standard of record keeping is achieved in line with CDDFT and professional standards including activity and service monitoring data collection
To teach and assess a range of medical and nursing clinical staff and their competency in clinical skills and assess their knowledge and its application.
Provide line management support (including annual appraisal) to an agreed number of staff
The post holder may be required to undertake other duties within the commensurate with the grade and experience.

- Significant level of current/recent practice which includes initiation of medicines for contraception and/or STI management working as an NMP.
- Experience at developing guidelines and protocols on a multidisciplinary level.
- Experience dealing with complex sexual health cases (including safeguarding).
- Experience as a Sexual Health Advisor.
- Evidence of budgetary control, managing budgets.

- Previous management/supervisory experience.
Special Skills & Knowledge

- Sound knowledge of national strategies/policy drivers and legislation in relation to sexual health and contraception.
- Clinically competent in independent assessment, genital examination, screening and the management of uncomplicated STIs possessing the required level of knowledge to underpin this practice.
- Competent in the use of microscopy.
- Clinically competent in independent assessment for and initiation of all common methods of routine and emergency contraception possessing the required level of knowledge to underpin this practice.
- In depth knowledge of policies and procedures surrounding care of young people under 16.
