An exciting role has arisen in the Speech and Language Therapy Service and Neurodisability Team at Great Ormond Street Hospital. You will join a dynamic Multi-Disciplinary Team that delivers specialist level services to children and young people with complex medical conditions. This post is a combination of specialisms in Developmental Epilepsy and Developmental Communication.
A high level of experience in the assessment and differential diagnosis of speech, language and communication is essential for this post. You should have an understanding of autism, language disorder and AAC. Experience of community services and a range of education services (Mainstream, Special School) are complementary to the post. The post holder acts as an advisor to community colleagues. You will have access to high quality supervision, training and development programs.

Main duties of the job
- To provide a specialist speech and language therapy service to a high level of expertise consisting of: assessment, differential diagnosis, interpretation, management and outcomes to children and adolescents with communication difficulties associated with complex neurological conditions. This is within the context of a multidisciplinary team assessment. This may include attendance at case conferences and joint clinic meetings as necessary
- To understand and use a full range of diagnostic assessments for children in this population (standardised and qualitative speech and language assessments).
- To act as clinical advisor in the area of specialism both within the Trust and to external agencies with regard to children and young people with a Neurodisability.
- To work as an independent practitioner accessing the Department's supervision system, and seeking and maintaining peer support from other specialist practitioners in line with clinical governance and professional guidelines
- To contribute to the development, service and team plans, policies and care protocol, relating to the clinical caseload in particular, in consultation with the Team Leader and multidisciplinary teams, using specialist knowledge
- To support the SLT and MDT clinical teams in teaching and training in the specialist subjects - AAC, Developmental Communication and Epilepsy
