We are inviting applications for an exciting Consultant role which has become available in our Mental Health Liaison team at Ipswich.

The post holder provides medical input to an existing Mental Health Liaison team to meet the additional demands of the work coming out due to new 111 option 2 launch. Both full time and part time applicants are encouraged to apply. The post holder will be supported by 0.5 wte Consultant and 1 wte SAS doctor. You will join a group of very active and enthusiastic group of Consultants and SAS doctors who provide leadership and participate actively in local transformation of the services. The post is part of our East Suffolk Care group which has the best ratings in NSFT for Medical engagement and above average from National Standards. Our medical workforce is actively involved and leads on all service developments locally.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to provide clinical leadership to our Mental Health Liaison team and take keen interest in their own and other colleagues clinical, educational, and professional development.

The post holder will undertake clinical management of patients seen within the team at a level as is appropriate for a speciality doctor under the supervision of Consultant Psychiatrist. This would include diagnostic assessment where required, development of management plans and treatments regimes.

They will also provide medical expertise within the multidisciplinary team, including SAS Doctors, Junior Doctors, Advance Nurse Practitioners, CPNs, Psychologists and Social Workers in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of referred patients; take part in team meetings, supervision, and the development of the team.

The duties also include liaison with professional colleagues in primary care, secondary care, and other psychiatric teams. The doctor is expected to be trained in mental health and capacity legislation to meet the requirements of emergency work, community treatment orders and assessment of capacity.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • GMC
  • Recognised basic medical degree
  • MRCPsych or Equivalent
  • Included on the GMC specialist register or within 3 months of CCT or equivalent in a relevant clinical specialism
  • Approved Clinician and Section 12 Approval under MHA

Desirable
  • Relevant higher degree (i.e. MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications)
  • Substantive experience at consultant level in the relevant specialism

Experience
Essential
  • Experience of the assessment and treatment of complex mental disorders in a relevant population
  • Experience of providing medical leadership in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Experience of clinical governance processes including ability to use quality improvement methods as a tool to improve quality of care
  • Experience in risk assessment and risk management

Desirable
  • Sub-speciality experience relevant to the clinical role (2) Relevant sub-specialty endorsement
  • Experience of multiagency working relevant to the role
  • Experience of building great teams
