The Shropshire Care group has two Mental Health Liaison (MHL) B6 opportunities. We are looking to employ qualified RMN/SW/OT B6 practitioners that have experience of assessing people who have experienced a Mental Health Crisis knowledge of physical health conditions and how these can affect a person's presentation would be beneficial though not obligatory, as we recognise that this can be part of a development plan. The role requires a robust clinician with good decision making skills who can work independently and as part of a team and be available to work as part of a 24/7 rota.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role are as follows
  • to provide a 1 hour response to the A+E department when referrals are made for people who have attended and require mental health support and assessment.
  • to provide a 24 hr response to the wards in the hospital for people who have been admitted and need support and assessment of their mental health.
  • to support colleagues within the general hospital in their education and learning about mental health presentations and the role of the Mental Health Liaison Team.

Job responsibilities

Provide comprehensive mental health assessment and direct delivery of specialist clinicalcare. This includes: assessing the inter-relationship of physical illness, psychological andpsychosomatic presentations, the care and management of patients with mental healthproblems in acute and community hospital settings, developing and monitoring specialisedmental health programmes of care and providing highly specialised advice across clientgroups young people ( 16 plus CYP), adults of working age, people over 65 and peopleexperiencing substance misuse problems, providing evidence based therapeuticinterventions as required.Manage, on a regular basis, complex cases, some presenting with high risk followingepisodes of self harm and attempted suicide and requiring highly developed andadvanced risk assessment, relapse management and crisis management skills.Be a source of education, advice and support for Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital staff intheir care of individuals with mental health presentations.
