This is an exciting opportunity to join our Radiology leadership team at our brand new Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) at Milford, Surrey. You will work in the clinical environment and be jointly responsible for the day-to-day management of the CT and MRI service provision working alongside other CT and MRI Superintendents as well as a multi-disciplinary team.

You will require excellent communication and organisational skills. A very high level of knowledge and competency in CT and/or MRI imaging and previous experience of team leadership is essential for this challenging and demanding role.

Main duties of the job

Opportunities for CPD are well supported including management and leadership courses as well as clinical development. All radiographers are expected to contribute to the training of our junior staff and students.

The successful candidate will engage in service delivery through capacity and demand management, maintaining imaging standards and managing staff including CPD, appraisals, training, recruitment and development.

Our newly built CDC is home to two brand new Siemens Magneton MRI scanners (3T Vida and 1.5T Sola,) as well as a brand new GE Ascend CT scanner. This opportunity will allow you to take on the new cross sectional department and make it the best it can be, with a team of enthusiastic and dedicated radiographers.

You will assist the Radiology Services Manager and Cross Sectional Imaging Manager with the strategic planning and developments of the service. If you believe you have the skills, enthusiasm and ambition to join our team we would love to hear from you.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Manage the CT/MRI department to ensure that it offers an effective, responsive and patient centered service in the community.

Provide a professional leadership role to the staff, leading by example to support, motivate and promote an effective working environment.

Manage the training, development and competencies of new staff.

Monitor skill mix and on-going competencies on a yearly basis or as required in line with service development.

Responsible for the annual appraisals and personal development of the CT and MRI Teams.

Ensure that junior staff and students receive appropriate theoretical and practical training.

Ensure self and team are up to date with deemed competent with Intravenous injections.

Attend mandatory/in house training including ILS training.

Maintain and develop interest in future radiography developments and allied imaging techniques for post registration education (CPD requirements).

Be able to assess, prioritise and manage the workload of the service

Set and maintain standards of appearance and professional attitude.

Must be willing to do flexible working if deemed necessary for the smooth operation of the department.

Participate in service development initiatives and be prepared to adapt to changes in service provision.

Ensure that all CT/MRI policies and procedures are regularly reviewed and updated.

Ensure effective communication and dissemination of any changes.

Ensure that the multidisciplinary CT/MRI team are aware of any changes required to improve the service.

Responsible for all written systems of work, including office booking rules.

On-going review and monitoring of service efficiencies including waiting times and appointment scheduling.

Meet regularly with the Cross Sectional Imaging Manager to discuss service delivery, provision and future developments and improvements

Be aware of waiting time statistics, target compliance and have an understanding of service pressures in order to manage the changing demands.

Works in accordance with best practice IR (ME) R 2017 and MHRA guidelines. Observe and apply Trust policies, departmental protocols, local rules and codes of practice

Ensure production of high quality images using optimum parameters and dose efficiencies available.

Continuous monitoring and review of DRLs and participation in dose related audits and medical physics reports

Provide leadership for the team to participate in area quality assurance programme.

Ensure data accuracy and recording of relevant information

Manage first line incidents and complaints related to the CT/MRI departments.

Lead the administration of referrals including the authorisation of requests, prioritisation and protocolling of procedures.

Lead the appointment scheduling in line with clinical priority and pathway compliance.

Ensure all infection control standards are adhered to and high levels of cleanliness are maintained.

Develop and participate in departmental audit programme and related areas of clinical governance including infection control.

Assist the Cross Sectional Imaging Manager/ Health and Safety representative with the risk management and assessment of the CT and MRI department.

Ensure that faults / hazards are promptly reported and appropriate action taken.

Review patient information and update as required.

Work with patients to determine their needs, viewing the quality of care as being of paramount importance.

Ensure that patients are examined in a caring, safe and comfortable environment.

Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, assist radiologists during radiological investigations and procedures.

Explain complex information to multidisciplinary groups in a manner that is simple to understand.

Ensure appropriate maintenance and housekeeping arrangements are in place to support the day to day operation of CT and MRI.

Develop and implement procedures for planned / unplanned equipment downtime. To include a robust business continuity plan with supporting documentation and escalation process.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • DCR or BSc in Radiography qualification State registered
  • Certificate of competence in administration of IV contrast injections


Desirable

  • Post graduate qualification in Cross Sectional Imaging
  • Certificate in Leadership or other relevant post graduate qualifications


Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Minimum 2 years post graduate experience in Cross Sectional Imaging
  • Awareness of IRMER Regulations and MHRA guidelines
  • Evidence continuing professional development
  • Must have an understanding of the background to and aims of current healthcare policy/national guidance/CQC/ and appreciate the implications of this on engagement
  • Knowledge of National Diagnostic targets
  • Knowledge of relevant NICE Guidelines
  • Extensive knowledge of CT and MRI applications


Desirable

  • Extensive Knowledge of Cardiac Scanning
