This post is a newly created 5-year fixed term or secondment opportunity for a Senior Clinical Academic as part of the NIHR funded 'Mental Health Leader Award' led by Teesside University, and supported by Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Trust and the University of York.
The post holder will have a current registration as a healthcare professional in their specialist area, and have experience of developing, writing, and securing external research grant funding as both co-applicant and Chief Investigator. They will act as a co-lead for a growing Mental Health Research Group in the School of Health and Life Sciences at Teesside University. The NIHR award starts on 1st January 2025 and ends on 31st December 2029.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will have extensive experience working in a Mental Health Trust in a Senior Clinical Role. They will lead and oversee capacity and capability building of staff aligned to the growing Mental Health Research Group including planning, development, application, and operationalisation of research projects. The post holder will contribute to academic and scholarly activities, including journal publication writing, external grant funding applications, and wider networking and collaboration activities. They will network and consult with stakeholders within the Tees Valley to identify applied mental health research priorities.

The Senior Clinical Academic will be based in the R& D team with relevant Professional Clinical Supervision. The post holder will be required to spend time at the Teesside University campus with the research team, and to work in other locations in the Tees Valley area and at other partner and stakeholder sites to conduct consultation work as required. Some work can be conducted remotely.

- Extensive experience working in a Mental Health Trust
- Extensive experience in a Senior clinical role e.g. Advanced Practice/Consultant level
- Working at a strategic level within an NHS Trust, regionally and nationally on a range of research clinical and management issues
- Experience of developing, writing, and securing external research grant funding as both co-applicant and Chief Investigator
- Experience of applied mental health research projects, particularly in research focused on Severe Mental Illness and/or diet-related long-term conditions.
- Experience of taking part in, conducting, writing up and disseminating research.
- Experience of liaising with multiple stakeholders to design research that addresses health and social care priorities.
Desirable
- Experience of peer research and co-production research practices
Qualifications

- A relevant undergraduate degree
- Registered healthcare professional membership
- Advanced training in the theory and practice relevant to the specialist field, and the job roles and responsibilities, to at least Master's level
- Have obtained or be working towards a PhD in a mental health and/or public health-related area
