An opportunity has risen for a Band 7 Nurse Practitioners to join a dynamic, functional experienced and highly skilled fertility nursing team. The post holders are expected to have previous experience in working in women's health, gynaecology and assisted conception.

Knowledge and experience in in transvaginal scanning is essential. Being part of this innovative team means that you will take part and help lead change within this progressive unit. You will have the opportunity to develop new skills in fertility nursing and work alongside leading fertility experts and contribute to fertility and reproductive health. There will be opportunities for extended roles including Egg donation, Surrogacy, PGT.

The Assisted Conception Unit at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest and most successful NHS units in London. The unit is based in state-of-the-art purpose built facility which was opened in 2009. The unit has the largest most successful pre-implantation genetic testing (PGT) programme in the UK, and is one of the first units to be licensed for stem cell research in the UK.

Main duties of the job

  • To assist in the coordination of all the activities in the sub fertility unit. This will include the running of clinics and the management of clients at every stage of their treatment including surgical procedures.
  • To develop a therapeutic environment that meets the needs of the clients.
  • To support clients through the entire care episode.
  • To create and maintain positive relationships within the hospital and community team, including the at home pharmacy.
  • In collaboration with the senior team members to assist in the assessment of the needs of each client and to initiate the appropriate treatment protocols.
  • Participate in audit of clinical activities within the Assisted Conception unit for the Trust and for the licensing body, the HFEA including CQC.

The post-holder will be one of a group of specialist nurses working in the sub fertility unit/Assisted Conception Unit where treatments offered range from ovulation induction and donor insemination to assisted conception techniques. These include in Vitro Fertilisation, Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection, Pre Implantation Genetic Diagnosis, Egg donation and Percutaneous Sperm Aspiration.
  • Will be responsible for the efficient day to day running of the assisted conception unit, and for supervising junior staff and learners who attend the unit
  • Will be involved in all aspects of treatment to meet the individual needs of the clients.
  • The post holder will be expected to manage the unit in the absence of the lead nurse.


Person Specification

Previous Experience

Essential

  • Extensive Experience working autonomously in an Assisted Conception unit
  • Management of a fertility subgroup caseload (PGT, Egg donation etc)
  • Carrying out staff appraisals being able set out SMART objectives that are beneficial for the service as well as the individual.
  • Nurse in Charge duties, allocation and prioritization of workload


Desirable

  • Counselling and delivering bad new course


Education

Essential

  • Registered with a Professional Body NMC
  • BSc degree equivalent experience
  • Post Registration qualifications/Courses in Gynecology and Fertility


Desirable

  • Non Medical Prescribing


Skills/Knowledge and Ability

Essential

  • Ability to perform Ultrasound scans-Vaginal / Abdominal and make decisions based on the outcome of the scan
  • Experience of changing management of subfertility care including Assisted Conception
  • Knowledge of the needs of infertile couples
  • Good IT skills


Desirable

  • Performing Embryo transfers and Intra uterine inseminations
