This is an exciting opportunity to develop our critical care services across both Royal Shrewsbury and Princess Royal Hospital sites.

This post will join other Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Dietitians and assistants in the critical care unit

This post will support the development of patient clinical pathways as part of the MDT and keep abreast with latest evidence based practice .

The post holders will be expected to drive service development for Speech and Language Therapy and support more junior staff to develop their clinical expertise in this area.

The post holder will have clinical experience in critical care and will be able to demonstrate appropriate expertise and be able to provide evidence of successful implementation of service improvements work.

The Hospital Transformation project will be moving all of critical care services eventually in the next few years onto the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital site .

The Post holder will drive service development for speech and languagge therapy within the unit

Main duties of the job

To lead and provide expert SLT care to patient in Critical Care units and to follow patients onto the ward as appropriate. To provide swallowing and communication assessment for all patients with a new tracheostomy, including those who are mechanically ventilated, as per GPICS standards To provide timely assessment of all critically ill patients who have communication and/or swallowing difficulties as per GPICS standards To provide support and education to colleagues both within and outside of the unit. To demonstrate evidence of clinical expertise in this field and working to evidence based practice

Qualifications

Essential

  • HCPC acknowledged qualification in SLT
  • HCPC registered


Desirable

  • Critical care qualification or MSc modules relevant to the post


Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of extensive experience in this clinical area
  • Evidence of teaching and presentation experience
  • Experience in audit and outcome measures


Desirable

  • Working within MDT teams influencing service delivery


Knowledge

Essential

  • Evidence of recent relevant CPD
  • Evidence of implementing service development initiatives
  • Evidence of implementing relevant evidence based practice
  • Demonstrates advanced clinical skill and clinical reasoning skills
  • Evidence of working to national and local drivers for this clinical area
