We have a Band 5 Assistant Psychologist post vacant in our S-CAMHS service in Hywel Dda University Health Board. It is a full time (part time hours may be considered but full time posts are preferred) and permanent contract. The post is based in Llanelli and provides clinical work under the regular supervision of a Clinical Psychologist and there will be opportunities for peer reflective practice.

Main duties of the job

The S-CAMHS service uses the Choice and Partnership Approach (CAPA) as its model of service delivery and the post-holder will be required to provide clinical sessions for Partnership work within the locality team, working with young people with a variety of mental health difficulties, and their families. The post holder will carry a clinical caseload and will be encouraged to develop skills in a range of psychological approaches (eg CBT, ACT, systemic).

In addition, 3 sessions a week will be provided to support the Clinical Psychologist working with Care Experienced Children within S-CAMHS, across the South of the Health Board footprint. This will involve some work directly with young people and their carers using an attachment and relational model as well supporting complex multi-agency systems to develop psychological and trauma-informed ways of working with children who are care experienced. There will also be opportunities to assist with projects within Psychology in S-CAMHS.

Person Specification

Qualification and Knowledge

Essential

  • A degree in Psychology
  • Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society


Desirable

  • Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis


Experience

Essential

  • Experience of having worked as an assistant psychologist, or very similar work may be considered.


Desirable

  • Experience of working with children, young people and their families.
  • Experience of conducting psychometric assessments.
  • Experience of having worked within the NHS.


Language Skills

Desirable

  • Welsh Speaker - Level 1


Other

Essential

  • An ability to travel around the footprint of the Health Board in a timely manner
  • Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends, depending on the needs of the service
